In the group stage of the 3-cushion carom billiards World Cup, Egypt round, Tran Thanh Luc competed in group D with Dick Jaspers (Netherlands, world number 3), Heo Jung Hang (Korea, world number 14) and Omer Karakurt (Türkiye).
When facing Dick Jaspers on December 7, Tran Thanh Luc had an excellent match. After leading 23-10 in the first round, Tran Thanh Luc let his opponent narrow the gap to 24-29 in the second round.
However, Tran Thanh Luc still played very bravely, before winning the final score of 40-31, after a total of 30 innings.
Meanwhile, in another group, Vietnam's representative Chiem Hong Thai lost to Torbjorn Blomdahl (Sweden, world number 4) with a score of 30-40.
Chiem Hong Thai still has 2 more matches in Group C, facing Martin Horn (Germany, ranked 12th in the world) and Mahmoud Ayman (Egypt).
In addition to Tran Thanh Luc and Chiem Hong Thai, Vietnam's 3-cushion carom billiards team has two more players present in Egypt: Tran Quyet Chien (world rank 5) in group E and Bao Phuong Vinh (world rank 9) in group G.
In this list, Bao Phuong Vinh is the current world champion (World Championship, a higher level than World Cup in billiards), and Tran Quyet Chien is the current world runner-up.
