Cambodian athlete runs and cries in the rain to receive special award

The SEA Games 32 Inspiration Program Awards Ceremony organized by Tuoi Tre Newspaper aims to honor inspirational athletes throughout the 2023 regional sports festival.

According to the results of the judges' votes as well as the number of likes on readers' articles, the victory belonged to 3 athletes: Tran Mai Ngoc (table tennis), Nguyen Thi Oanh (athletics) and host country athlete Bou Samnang (athletics).

Track and field athlete Bou Samnang touched the hearts of Cambodians after the women's 5,000 meter race on the afternoon of May 8. Bou Samnang was not highly regarded. She was quickly left behind after only 3 laps of the field. A few minutes later, it rained heavily at Morodok Techo Stadium.

Despite the pouring rain that flooded the track, Bou Samnang persevered. When she was left alone on the track, Bou Samnang burst into tears but was determined to reach the finish line. She received great support from volunteers, foreign athletes and fans.

The SEA Games Inspiration Program awards the winning athletes 20 million VND/person. In addition, there are also some rewards from businesses such as 3 Son Doong tours worth 3,000 USD, a cash prize of 1,500 USD from a business unit and gifts, support from other businesses,...

For athlete Tran Mai Ngoc, she is a typical example of overcoming difficulties. Although she had to leave her family at the age of 9 to study table tennis in Hanoi, Mai Ngoc has made constant efforts to become a professional player. At the 32nd SEA Games, Mai Ngoc and her teammate Anh Hoang competed excellently, bringing home the gold medal in mixed doubles table tennis after 26 years of waiting.

In addition, athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh is worthy of being a symbol of the perseverance of Vietnamese women. Having to compete in two consecutive events, the 1,500m and 3,000m hurdles, within 30 minutes, the runner from Bac Giang still excellently won gold medals in both events.
