In January 2025, Vietnam's macroeconomic situation continued to be stable, inflation was controlled, and major balances were ensured.
On the afternoon of February 5, in Hanoi, the Government Office held a regular Government press conference for January 2025. This was the first press conference after the Lunar New Year holiday.

Development investment continues to achieve positive results
Speaking at the press conference, Minister Tran Van Son said that the socio-economic situation in January 2025 continued to show a positive recovery trend with many important and noteworthy results in many fields. Specifically:
Tet At Ty 2025 takes place in a joyful, warm, reunited, healthy, safe, economical atmosphere; everyone, every family has Tet.
The macro economy continues to be stable, inflation is under control, and major balances are ensured. The consumer price index (CPI) increased by 3.63% over the same period. The monetary market and exchange rate are basically stable; lending interest rates maintain a downward trend.
At the same time, state budget revenue reached nearly 276 trillion VND, equal to 14% of the estimate, up 3.5% over the same period. Trade balance had a surplus of 1.23 billion USD. Energy and food security were ensured; labor supply basically met demand.
In addition, the main industries and sectors have many positive signals such as: Industrial Production Index (IIP) increased by 0.6% over the same period; agricultural, forestry and fishery production developed stably; ensuring increased demand during Tet; trade and services were quite vibrant; total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue increased by 9.5%.
Minister Tran Van Son informed: "Development investment continues to achieve positive results. Registered foreign direct investment (FDI) reached 3.55 billion USD, up 21.8%. Realized FDI reached 1.51 billion USD, up 2% over the same period."
At the same time, cultural and social fields are focused on. Politics and society are stable; national defense and security are maintained; social order and safety are ensured; prevention and fight against corruption and negativity are promoted. Traffic accidents are reduced in all three criteria.
"Foreign relations and international integration have been promoted, achieving many important milestones; negotiating and signing many international treaties and agreements. International organizations continue to positively assess Vietnam's economic growth prospects," the Minister emphasized.

Perfecting institutions with the spirit of "breakthrough of breakthroughs"
In addition to the achieved results, according to Mr. Son, there are still shortcomings, limitations, difficulties, and challenges that need to be addressed. These are: Pressure on macroeconomic management, inflation, exchange rates, and high interest rates; fierce strategic competition; impacts and influences of policies of major economies; slow disbursement of public investment, without clear changes; growth in some areas is not sustainable at times and in some places; production and business activities in some areas still face many difficulties; the lives of a segment of the population still face difficulties...
Faced with the above difficulties, the Government spokesman said the Prime Minister directed to focus on the following key issues:
Firstly, continue to perfect the institution in the spirit of "breakthrough of breakthroughs"; streamline the apparatus, improve effectiveness and efficiency of operations; promote administrative reform and digital transformation. Urgently review, supplement and perfect legal regulations that are no longer suitable or overlapping in the direction of resolving problems wherever they arise, and at which level, that level proactively proposes, amends and perfects. Seriously and effectively implement the arrangement and streamlining of the apparatus according to Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW. Focus on implementing the Government's Action Program to implement Resolution No. 57 on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and national digital transformation.
Second, continue to prioritize promoting growth, focus on renewing traditional driving forces, and promote new driving forces.
Third, maintain macroeconomic stability, control inflation, ensure major balances of the economy - in which the electricity growth rate is about 12.5-13%. Focus on operating monetary policy proactively, flexibly, promptly and effectively; coordinate synchronously and harmoniously with a reasonable, focused, key expansionary fiscal policy and other policies.
Fourth, effectively implement credit growth measures (striving for over 16%), directing credit to production and business sectors, priority sectors, and growth drivers; strictly control credit in high-risk sectors; strive to reduce lending interest rates...
Fifth, effectively implement state budget collection, ensure correct, full and timely collection, etc. Continue to research and propose policies to reduce taxes, fees and charges for people and businesses.
Sixth , focus on the fields of culture, social security, environmental protection, natural disaster prevention and control, and climate change response. Overcome the local labor shortage after Tet, and avoid a break in labor supply and demand. Focus on ensuring social security. Research and implement credit packages for social housing. Resolutely implement the emulation movement "Join hands to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses nationwide in 2025"...
Seventh , consolidate and strengthen national defense and security; maintain social order and safety; step up the fight against corruption, waste and negativity; improve the effectiveness of foreign affairs and international integration.
Eighth , strengthen information and communication work, create social consensus, and contribute to the successful implementation of socio-economic development goals and tasks in 2025.
