If these two opposing trends occur together, the interest rate differential between the US and Japan will narrow – making the Yen even more attractive to international investors.

Notably, one of the worrying factors is the strong tax policy of US President Donald Trump. The official application of a 25% tax on imported cars from Japan - an industry that contributes nearly 3% of GDP - has created a significant shock. Accordingly, concerns about the risk of a full-blown trade war have become more present.
