Coach Philipe Troussier finalized the list of the Vietnamese team after a training session in the rain this afternoon, November 12. Among the 28 selected players, there are three goalkeepers, 10 defenders, 8 midfielders and 7 strikers.
This team is a mix of players who were successful under coach Park Hang-seo such as goalkeeper Dang Van Lam, fullback Vu Van Thanh, center back Que Ngoc Hai, midfielder Do Hung Dung, strikers Nguyen Van Toan, Nguyen Tien Linh... and young players such as defender Ho Van Cuong, midfielder Hoang Van Toan, Nguyen Thai Son, striker Nguyen Thanh Nhan, Nguyen Dinh Bac...
The Vietnamese team will leave for Manila on the morning of November 13. There, coach Troussier and his team will have three more training sessions to get used to the weather and field conditions, before playing the host Philippines at 6 p.m. on November 16.
Vietnam is in Group F of the second qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup with the Philippines, Indonesia, and Iraq. After the opening match against the Philippines, the team will return home to face Iraq on November 21.
This is the first official tournament for coach Troussier and the Vietnamese team. He signed a contract with the VFF on February 27 and has only led the U22 team to play in the 32nd SEA Games, where the team failed to defend the gold medal after losing 2-3 to Indonesia in the semi-finals.
