Hai Phong Le Hong Phong High School was criticized by parents for organizing an experience trip to 4 central provinces with a cost of more than 2.8 million VND, and had to temporarily stop.
On the afternoon of January 3, the Department of Education and Training of Hai Phong City announced the above information.
The incident originated from a post by a social media account, upset because the school organized an experience trip at a cost of 2.8 million per student.
"Approximately 120 million for a class of 40 students. If I don't let my child go, I'm afraid I'll feel sorry for myself. Just going out for a bit will cost me 3 months of tuition," this person reflected. The post attracted thousands of interactions, causing a stir in Hai Phong. Many people agreed, saying that organizing the trip at a time when students are preparing for their high school graduation exams is inappropriate.

According to Mr. Dinh Hong Tiep, Principal of Le Hong Phong High School, the experiential activities of grade 12 students are part of the general education program and extracurricular activities, taught by homeroom teachers.
According to the plan, the program, called "Following the course of history", will last three days and two nights (March 13-15), and will visit the provinces of Nghe An, Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, and Quang Tri. The cost for each student is 2.83 million VND, and participation is not mandatory. Through a survey, 423/480 students registered.
The school plans to have a plan so that students who do not participate can still grasp the required content. However, due to the backlash over funding, the school continues to ask for parents' opinions.
The Department of Education and Training said it will only allow schools to organize experiential activities outside of school when it ensures the consent of parents and appropriate financial contributions.
Experiential activities and field trips are now popular in schools across the country. In addition to their positive educational value, organizing these activities, especially in remote locations, can also raise issues related to food safety and traffic safety, and can also cause parents to be concerned about the costs.
Le Hong Phong High School has a history of more than 60 years and is one of the top schools in Hai Phong. The school has about 30 classes with 1,400 students.
