Admission quota for grade 10 of Gifted High School (Ho Chi Minh City National University) is divided into specialized classes corresponding to 2 learning facilities.
District 5 campus recruits 245 students, including 7 specialized classes, including Math, Information Technology, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, English and Literature.

Thu Duc campus recruits 350 students including 10 specialized classes, including Math (2 classes), IT (1 class), Physics (1 class), Chemistry (1 class), Biology (1 class), English (2 classes) and Literature (2 classes).
The output standards of specialized classes at Thu Duc campus emphasize the development of interdisciplinary thinking capacity with a foundation of specialized subjects.
Candidates are required to take 4 exams. There are 3 exams in Math, Literature, and English for non-specialized subjects and 1 exam for specialized subjects. Each candidate can register for a maximum of 2 specialized subjects in the optional specialized subject exam. The non-specialized subject exam includes multiple choice and essay questions. The specialized subject exam only includes essay questions. The coefficient of the non-specialized exam score is 1, the coefficient of the specialized subject exam score is 2.
The registration portal opens for receiving application documents from 8:00 a.m. on May 5 to 5:00 p.m. on May 11, 2025 (including Saturday and Sunday).
Last year, the High School for the Gifted (Ho Chi Minh City National University) recruited 595 students, but more than 3,800 candidates from many provinces and cities registered to take the exam. The school's average competition ratio was 1/6.5, the highest number in the past 7 years.
At that time, the highest standard score to enter the school was for the Chemistry class with 33.75 points. Next was the English class with 32.4 points. Third was the Math class with 32.25 points.
The remaining specialized classes have admission scores ranging from 23.9 to 31 points. The lowest is the standard score for the Literature-Linux class (interdisciplinary) with 23.9 points. Math is the subject with the lowest average score among all specialized subjects. Statistics show that out of more than 1,000 candidates taking the exam, the average score is 2.72 points. More than 41% of the exams were failed and the candidate with the highest score was 9.75 points.
Students must have good academic performance and conduct for the entire school year of junior high school, and graduate from this level with good performance or higher.
