The US election has begun counting votes for the race between Democratic candidate Kamala Harris and Republican Donald Trump.
To win, each candidate needs to get at least 270 electoral votes. In this race, battleground states such as Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin are expected to be decisive factors, contributing significantly to the victory of one of the two candidates. Before the polls officially opened on the morning of November 5 local time, more than 80 million Americans had already cast their ballots, of which nearly 45 million people went directly to early voting stations, and about 38 million people chose to vote by mail. In this vote, voters will also decide which party will control the House of Representatives and the Senate.

Philadelphia rejects Trump's election fraud allegations
11/06/2024 06:28 GMT+7 In response to Mr Trump's accusation of "massive fraud" in Philadelphia, the largest city in the key battleground state of Pennsylvania, city officials said it was "another example of misinformation". "There is no factual basis in law enforcement to support this ridiculous allegation. If Mr Donald J. Trump has any facts to support his ridiculous allegations, bring them to us now," AFP news agency quoted prosecutor Larry Krasner as saying. "There is absolutely no truth to this allegation. Voting in Philadelphia is safe and secure," said city commissioner Seth Bluestein, a Republican. In another development, an Arizona voter sued Mr Musk for promising to randomly pick a winner of a $1 million prize, but the billionaire's lawyer said earlier this week that the winners were chosen based on their suitability to promote his super PAC.

Polling station closing times
11/06/2024 06:07 GMT+7 With the first polls closing at 6 p.m. ET on Jan. 5, turnout appears to be high. There have been no major problems with the voting process, although there have been some scattered technical issues. After the polls close, the media will begin to project the results. Ms. Harris's "blue" regions, including California and New York, will end voting later. Here are the polls closing times, according to Eastern time: 6 p.m.: Polls in some areas of Indiana and Kentucky will close. Most Florida polls also close at 7 p.m., but some areas close at 8 p.m. 7 p.m.: Voting is completely over in the first six states, including the battleground Georgia, which has 16 electoral votes. All candidates have voted.
11/06/2024 05:52 GMT+7 In the small town of Dixville Notch, New Hampshire, where voting is traditionally done at midnight on election day, the 2024 presidential race started out in a tie: Donald Trump and Kamala Harris each received three votes from a total of six voters. The result reflects the tight contest between the two candidates in this year's election. Harris, who voted by mail before Election Day, made a surprise visit to the Democratic National Committee headquarters in Washington, DC, on election day afternoon. She had said in a radio interview that her first order of business if elected would be to "reduce the cost of living for everyone." Harris' running mate, Tim Walz, said the election was "close" but he was "happy about it." He asserted that America had "the fairest, freest and safest elections." Trump said he felt "very confident" as he voted in Florida with his wife early on November 5. Asked if he would urge his supporters not to engage in violence, Trump said: "I don't have to tell them there won't be violence," adding that his supporters "are not violent people." Trump's running mate JD Vance voted in Cincinnati, Ohio. Vance said that "the best way to heal the rift in our country is to try to run the country as best we can." The FBI said it had received information about bomb threats targeting polling stations in states such as Georgia and Pennsylvania. Many of the threats appeared to have come from email domains originating from Russia. However, the FBI said that so far, none of the threats had been confirmed. A man was arrested by Capitol Police during a search at the building’s visitor center in Washington, DC, police said. The man “smelled like gasoline” and had “a torch” and “a flare gun.” According to people close to Mr Trump, some advisers have advised him to declare victory early on election night if he leads Ms Harris far enough in key battleground states like Pennsylvania, although it is unclear whether he will follow that advice.
