After finding an export company and signing a product purchase agreement, Sen Nui Cooperative in Dong Ha Commune (Duc Linh) cooperated with local people to grow chili peppers for export to Korea.

With 8 sao of land, Sen Nui Cooperative invested about 300 million VND in costs for film, irrigation system, seedlings, fertilizers... to grow chili peppers for export. After 3 months of planting, the first harvest yielded 10.6 tons of chili, with a selling price of 25,000 VND/kg and recovered the initial investment capital. It is estimated that after 3 harvests of about 24 tons of chili, after deducting expenses, the profit is about 150 million VND. The products are sold to companies exporting to Korea. That is what Ms. Nguyen Thi Suoi - Deputy Director of Sen Nui Cooperative shared when we met her.

The characteristics of the chili pepper are easy to grow, good growth and resistance to pests and diseases, early flowering and fruiting and high yield. The fruit is straight, smooth skin when ripe has a bright red color. The chili is grown on loose, well-drained soil, using mulch. During the care process, growers use organic fertilizer to fertilize the plants, and biological pest control. A planting and harvesting cycle takes about 5 - 6 months, with a yield of 3 tons of chili per sao or more.

According to Ms. Suoi, the cooperative implements a model of growing safe chili peppers according to the process and finds an export company to sign a contract for product output. Farmers in the commune come to learn the process and how to do it from planting to harvesting. Thanks to the practical model, farmers understand and participate in chili production. Currently, Dong Ha commune has 15 households participating in growing 10 hectares of chili peppers, and has signed a contract with the cooperative to bring farmers into the production process of organic fertilizer, biological pest control, no pesticide residue and product consumption.

The chili growing model in Dong Ha commune has a chain connection from production to product consumption. Especially in the consumption stage, the cooperative signed a contract with an export company to purchase at a price of 17,000 VND/kg. If the market price is higher than the signed price, the company will purchase at the market price, and if it is lower, it will purchase at the signed price.

Mr. Pham Ba Vien (Dong Ha commune, Duc Linh) said: “Sen Nui Cooperative provides technical support, seedlings, fertilizers and also guarantees the consumption of output products. Therefore, I am confident in deciding to invest in growing chili peppers for export to Korea on an area of 1 hectare. Previously, this land area did not produce good pepper crops due to low output prices and pests that killed the pepper plants. Currently, chili peppers are in the growing stage and in 2 months it will be time to harvest the first crop of fruit.

In addition, chili also helps solve the problem of idle labor in the locality with the chili picking cost of 5,000 VND/kg. The average picking day ranges from 100,000 - 250,000 VND/person, depending on how fast or slow each person picks. Thus, growing organic chili peppers according to the value chain linkage model associated with product consumption opens up a new promising direction, not only helping to solve jobs and increase income for people, but also contributing to changing people's production awareness.
