Thanh Son: Over 9 billion VND to support forest protection and contracting

The Yen Luong commune community forest protection team regularly patrols and warns of forest fire prevention and control.

Thanh Son district currently has over 7,000 hectares of natural forest allocated to 265 households and 18 forest protection groups receiving support located in 9 communes: Dong Cuu, Kha Cuu, Thuong Cuu, Tan Minh, Tan Lap, Thang Son, Yen Luong, Yen Lang, Yen Son. In 2024, Thanh Son district will pay 9 billion 130 million VND (100% from the local budget) to households receiving contracts to protect forests. To date, the district has paid over 4 billion 350 million VND, reaching 75% of the capital disbursement plan. The disbursement is to pay support for contracted labor and forest protection through the accounts of forest owners opened at the Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (AgriBank) of Thanh Son district.

The implementation of forest protection, care and regeneration has limited the problem of illegal deforestation, contributed to maintaining the stability of the contracted forest area; improved the lives of contracted households, created incentives for households to actively participate in forest protection work, and at the same time saved investment budget for forest protection work at the grassroots level. Through the implementation of forest protection contracts, the situation of people farming and illegally exploiting forest products on protective forest land has significantly decreased. In addition, from the contracted forest areas, people have combined with economic development by raising livestock, poultry, aquaculture and planting some short-term medicinal plants under the forest canopy without affecting the forest, bringing a fairly high income for the family.
