On the afternoon of April 10, at the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in response to a reporter's question asking for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' comments and upcoming measures of Vietnam in response to the April 9 announcement by US President Donald Trump to temporarily suspend reciprocal tariffs for 90 days with more than 75 countries, including Vietnam, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang stated:
“We believe that the US decision to suspend reciprocal tariffs for 90 days on exports from countries to the US, including Vietnam, is a positive step.”
According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, Vietnam will negotiate with the United States on a reciprocal trade agreement, on the basis of mutual respect, to reach satisfactory solutions towards fair and sustainable trade and to meet the interests of the people and businesses of the two countries. This reflects the spirit of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries, as well as the spirit of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Ms. Pham Thu Hang said that 2025 is the year Vietnam and the United States celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations; there will be many commemorative activities in 2025, including the exchange of delegations at all levels. Foreign affairs activities will be announced later.
