Trekking to explore nature in Dong Van

Trekking is a form of outdoor tourism, hiking and exploring nature that is loved by many tourists. Grasping this need, Binh Lieu is turning trekking into a new tourism product in 2024. The district has connected and brought a famtrip group of travel companies specializing in bringing international tourists to Vietnam to survey the Song Mooc - Khe Tien trekking route and expects this to be a typical tourism product that attracts international visitors, especially Western visitors to Binh Lieu.

Rice fields are one of the most unique landscapes of the Song Mooc - Khe Tien trek.

As scheduled, every autumn and winter, tourists flock to the mountainous border district of Binh Lieu in Quang Ninh province to check-in on the white grass hills, the golden terraced rice fields or visit the Dao villages in the hamlets, such as Song Mooc or Khe Tien, the highest and most remote hamlets.

Compared to other forms of tourism by car or motorbike, trekking is a slow form of tourism, requiring participants to be in good health. This type of discovery tourism is especially popular with Western, Korean and Japanese tourists because trekking not only provides a closer look but also gives a feeling of being immersed in the natural environment and culture of the destination. At the same time, trekking also satisfies tourists' passion for exploring and learning about untouched lands.

As one of the first foreign visitors to explore the trekking route from Song Mooc village to Khe Tien village, Dong Van commune, Binh Lieu district, Mr. Alexandre Betrand, a French tourist, could not help but be surprised: “I love the natural scenery here. The poetic golden rice fields, the small, winding roads, winding along the rice fields. In particular, I really like the unique ethnic culture here. It is truly a wonderful and unforgettable experience.”

Only about a dozen kilometers long and can be completed in 4 to 6 hours, the trekking route in Dong Van is considered suitable for many tourists. The trekking route goes through a diverse natural and cultural landscape from rice fields to residential roads, into anise forests, cinnamon forests, through streams winding around villages, through the yard where people are drying cassava; through houses with red earth walls that are decades old... Trekking in Dong Van brings a multi-sensory experience to tourists.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, Director of Esy Ways Travel Company, shared: When passing through the anise forests, the fragrant scent of anise flowers with tiny, very pretty anise flowers, combined with the autumn sunshine and rustling leaves, truly creates a peaceful autumn melody. With this trekking route, we can completely offer it to international tourists such as French tourists. They will love it. Tourists can go during the day or stay in Binh Lieu for a night. If there are more activities to experience craft villages and ethnic cultural and artistic programs, it is completely possible for tourists to extend their stay.

Trekking in Dong Van is one of two new tourism products that Binh Lieu district has registered with the province to serve tourists in 2024. The famtrip delegation to survey the product was organized by the People's Committee of Binh Lieu district in coordination with Binh Lieu Community Tourism Company Limited in mid-October 2024, including more than 50 inbound travel agencies specializing in bringing international visitors to Vietnam. To prepare for the survey delegation, the People's Committee of Binh Lieu district directed the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the People's Committee of Dong Van commune to coordinate with the villagers to clean up the environment along the trekking routes and inform the villagers about the survey. Mr. Tang Van Dao, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Dong Van commune, Binh Lieu district, said: "When informed about the tourism delegation's famptrip program, the villagers were very supportive. Not only actively participating in cleaning up the environment, everyone was also very excited to participate in leading the delegation and guiding the way for the survey delegation".

It is expected that in November, the first international tourist groups will come to Binh Lieu through the connection between inbound travel businesses after this famtrip. With the efforts of Binh Lieu district, the dedication and enthusiasm of the people and businesses, a new, unique and sustainable tourism product has been completed, promising to exploit the advantages of natural and cultural tourism of Binh Lieu, helping the district reach the target of welcoming 250,000 visitors in 2024 and aiming to become the community tourism center of the province.
