With ethnic minorities accounting for 94.36% of the population, Binh Lieu district always focuses on preserving, maintaining and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups, considering this an important factor for developing tourism and the local socio-economy.
In 2012, the Then singing - Tinh lute club of Hoanh Mo commune was established. The club's activities are held regularly, becoming a destination for Then lovers and a large number of Tay people in the area. Folk artist Tran Siu Thu, Chairman of the club, said: Initially, the club only had a few members, now the number of members has increased to 38. Not only does it maintain regular weekly activities, actively participate in performances in commune and district programs, but when mobilized, the club also performs in the province. The club also regularly has exchange programs with the Dong Tong Arts Club (Fangchenggang City, Guangxi, China). Thereby contributing to promoting the culture of the Tay people of Binh Lieu district to international friends.
Up to now, there are 26 traditional cultural and artistic clubs and teams operating regularly in the district. The clubs' vibrant activities contribute to promoting the grassroots cultural and artistic movement, preserving and promoting traditional folk songs, such as Then singing of the Tay ethnic group, Pa Dung singing of the Dao ethnic group, and Soong Co singing of the San Chay ethnic group.
The district also maintains and develops folk games, dramatizes traditional rituals, such as the Dao Thanh Phan's Coming of Age Ceremony, the San Chi's Welcoming the Bride Ceremony, the Tay ethnic group's Hot Pot Ceremony, and the formation of San Chi women's soccer... At the same time, it maintains and organizes traditional festivals and holidays such as the San Chay Palm Wave Festival, the Dao Thanh Phan's Wind Abstinence Festival, the Luc Na Communal House Festival, the So Flower Festival, and the Golden Season Festival... Thereby, effectively exploiting cultural values to serve tourism development.
In particular, the district has developed and implemented the Project "Preserving the culture of ethnic groups in the area until 2020, with a vision to 2025". Accordingly, it focuses on prioritizing and creating conditions for ethnic communities to protect, promote and pass on traditional cultural heritage values, from housing architecture, living spaces, traditional costumes, to cuisine, folk songs, customs and practices..., creating cultural products to meet the development of local cultural tourism and community tourism.
The district has completed the Project "Preserving and promoting typical cultural values of the Tay ethnic group in Binh Lieu to serve the development of community tourism in the area until 2025, with a vision to 2030"; continuing to develop the Project "Preserving and promoting the cultural values of the Dao people associated with the development of community tourism in Song Mooc village, Dong Van commune, period 2022-2025, with a vision to 2030" and the Project "Preserving and promoting the cultural values of the San Chi people associated with the development of community tourism in Luc Ngu village, Huc Dong commune, period 2022-2025, with a vision to 2030", contributing to gradually realizing the goal of becoming a center for community tourism, eco-tourism - experience, agricultural tourism, cultural tourism, border tourism of the province.
Mr. Hoang Ngoc Ngo, Vice Chairman of the District People's Committee, shared: People are the decisive factor, the subject of preserving the typical cultural features of their ethnic group. The district focuses on mobilizing, propagating, and raising awareness so that people can see the value of their ethnic cultural identity. That is the driving force to both preserve culture and help create resources to maintain and develop the economic community of villages and hamlets.
