Decorating the house to prepare for the traditional Tet holiday is a beautiful traditional feature in Vietnamese culture. This not only creates a clean and beautiful space but also contains many profound humanistic meanings. Therefore, for every Vietnamese family, no matter how busy the time before Tet is, they still take the time to decorate their house with the hope of starting a favorable year with good luck.

Decorate your home to welcome spring

Making rose branches for Tet is a home decoration trend this year.

With the concept of "Sending out the old, welcoming the new", which means getting rid of the old, welcoming the new, bringing luck to the family, cleaning and renovating the house is very important to everyone. Nearly ten years ago, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Hai and his wife in Thong Nhat area, Dong Thinh commune, Yen Lap district saved up and borrowed money to build their own home. However, due to a hard working life and two young children, his family did not have the means to buy amenities or decorate the house. About a month before the Lunar New Year of At Ty this year, the couple decided to spend nearly 30 million VND to renovate and redecorate the ancestral altar area and buy some more worship items. Mr. Hai shared: "The ancestral altar is a sacred place, showing the respect of descendants to their ancestors. The altar is arranged in a solemn place and is regularly cleaned and tidy, especially during Tet holidays, to express the wish that the ancestors bless their descendants with peace, health and good luck. Along with that, I will decorate the living room, the entrance hall, the main door and the gate of the house. Because in my opinion, this is the first place to welcome fortune and welcome the first visitor of the year. Therefore, this area is always cleaned and tidied carefully.

Decorate your home to welcome spring

Decorating the house is an occasion for the whole family to gather, bond, and welcome a new year filled with wealth and happiness.

In the layout of the house, the living room has an important position because it is where the prosperity is concentrated. This is also the most important space during the holidays and family reunions. This year, students have an early Tet holiday, so Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Huong - a teacher at Gia Cam Primary School, Viet Tri City, also temporarily put aside her work at school to take care of and prepare the house to welcome the new year. As a flower lover, every year Ms. Huong spends time finding fresh flowers to decorate the living room. Along with the Phalaenopsis orchid pots and roses like every year, this year in the family's living room there are also pure white wild plum blossoms sent from Son La, making the space more cozy and lively. Ms. Huong is excited: Before Tet, every year my family spends 1-2 sessions cleaning the house. My husband will be in charge of heavy tasks such as repainting the fence; my children and I together do light tasks such as cleaning tables, chairs, cabinets, and arranging flowers. After that, the whole family will go to the bookstore to buy decals to decorate the house. Each year there will be a suitable, lovely, and cheerful zodiac mascot, so we always prepare carefully to beautify our home."

Not only does it help to make the house spacious and clean to welcome Tet, decorating the house at the end of the year also has the meaning of welcoming the first fortune of the year into the house. Because according to the ancients, the God of Wealth brings luck and fortune that will knock on the door of clean, tidy, and happy houses in the first days of the year. In fact, any family with a clean, lavishly decorated house will be more confident when guests come to visit. The guests themselves will also feel comfortable and respected.

Renovating the house at the end of the year is also the "string" that connects family affection. Before Tet is a busy time, members all focus on their own work. The days before Tet are the time when everyone cleans up and gathers together. This is also the time to preserve memories with loved ones every spring. Looking at the neat, clean, warm house, then sitting together around the New Year's Eve dinner, each family member feels the loving spring knocking on the door.
