Bao Phuong Vinh lost to prodigy Cho Myung Woo

On March 28, the Asian Carom Championship for men's 3-cushion took place in the round of 16, quarter-finals, semi-finals and finals. Of the 7 Vietnamese players in the round of 16, 4 won tickets to the quarter-finals, including Tran Quyet Chien, Tran Duc Minh, Le Thanh Tien and Bao Phuong Vinh.

The quarter-final match was a competition between Vietnamese players and host Korea. In which, Tran Quyet Chien came from behind to defeat Lee Beom Yeol 50-32 after 27 rounds.

Tran Duc Minh faced his defeated opponent in the final of the 2024 Ho Chi Minh City World Cup. This time, the Vietnamese player lost 37-50, despite chasing closely until the last minutes.

Meanwhile, Le Thanh Tien created a surprise when he defeated Heo Jung Han 50-33.

The best match of this round was between 2023 world champion Bao Phuong Vinh and 2024 world champion Cho Myung Woo. The Binh Duong player had the most favorable start when he led 28-9 after only 8 turns.

He maintained a steady performance to continue leading 44-24. However, at this time, prodigy Cho Myung Woo launched a series of 8-point, 11-point series and then equalized the score 48-48. The Korean player completed an unbelievable comeback of 50-48 after 24 rounds.

In the semi-finals, Tran Quyet Chien faced Kim Jun Tae. These are two players who once held the world number 1 position. Kim Jun Tae, with a strong mentality and home field advantage, won 50-27.

But in the other semi-final, Le Thanh Tien created quite a few surprises for Cho Myung Woo. The home player led with a safe margin of 47-30, close to victory. But he had a series of missed shots, not scoring any points.

On the contrary, Le Thanh Tien played with excitement and precise shots. At one point, he created a series of 9 points, shortening the score to 42-47. But then Cho Myung Woo woke up in time to win 50-42.

Despite the unfortunate loss, Le Thanh Tien and his compatriot Tran Quyet Chien won the bronze medal in the 2025 Asian Carom Championship in the men's 3-cushion category. The final match will be a competition between two compatriots Cho Myung Woo and Kim Jun Tae.

The 2025 Asian Carom Billiards Championship will take place from March 27 to 30 in Gangwon. The men's 3-cushion carom event will take place from March 27 to 28. The women's 3-cushion, 3-cushion U22 and 1-cushion carom events will be contested from March 29 to 30.
