China Mrs. Tuong discovered many pieces of jewelry and savings books in a secret safe when she moved into her newly rented house in Ningbo.
Jiang Jingping, in her 50s, works at a senior care center in Zhenhai District, Ningbo City, Zhejiang Province. After moving into her newly rented apartment, she discovered the safe hidden behind a cabinet on July 20 while cleaning.
"When I moved the cupboard and tore off the wallpaper, I found a small safe in the corner. I was very confused," she said.

The green safe was hidden deep in the wall, close to the floor. When she opened the safe, she was surprised to find many valuable items, including five savings books, jewelry including rings and gold necklaces. The total value of the savings books was 400,000 yuan (US$56,000).
"At first I was confused because I had never seen so much money," said Ms. Tuong.
She contacted the social workers of the Hou Dai Nhai neighborhood. They said that the owners of the apartment were an elderly couple who had passed away, and that their children had sold their parents’ property without knowing that there was a hidden asset. They tried to contact the family to return the valuables.
The Zhenhai District government said on July 25 that it had found the grandson of the former owner of the house and returned the belongings his grandparents had left him on the afternoon of July 24. Zhang Jingbo, the neighborhood party secretary, said he was "honored to have a neighbor like Ms. Jiang and commended her actions."
Ms. Jiang's story has attracted attention on Chinese social media. "She had to rent a house but she refused to take away those valuables. Surely God will bless her and her family," one person commented.
"I wonder what the old couple went through, why they didn't tell their children about their savings," another person asked.
