On January 2, Ho Chi Minh City organized the injection of DPT-VGB-Hib (SII) vaccine (to prevent 5 diseases: diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B, pneumonia/meningitis caused by Hib bacteria) for children from 2 months to 18 months old who have not received the first injection and children who have not received enough 5-in-1 vaccine doses, at 296 injection points in 22 districts, Thu Duc City.

At the vaccination sites, the vaccination process was carried out in an orderly, safe and compliant manner. Many parents were happy that the health station had the 5-in-1 vaccine available for free vaccination for their children.

Dr. Le Hong Nga, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Center for Disease Control (HCDC), said that the 5-in-1 vaccination campaign will be carried out until January 6 at medical stations, some specialized maternity and pediatric hospitals, and general hospitals.

In Vietnam, 5 diseases: diphtheria, whooping cough, tetanus, hepatitis B, pneumonia/meningitis caused by Hib bacteria are dangerous infectious diseases in children and are included in many countries in the world's compulsory vaccination programs. Vaccination to prevent these 5 diseases will reduce the number of cases and reduce the burden of disease.

“In Vietnam in general and Ho Chi Minh City in particular, the recent interruption of this vaccine is a concern. Because the more children are not fully vaccinated and on schedule, the risk of an outbreak is completely possible. When the vaccine is available, those working in epidemic prevention from the city to districts, wards and communes are very happy and start vaccinating children right after the holiday,” Dr. Le Hong Nga informed.

Previously, as reported by SGGP Newspaper, after a period of shortage of DPT-VGB-Hib (SII) vaccine, on December 27, 2023, 467,800 doses of DPT-VGB-Hib (SII) vaccine from the Australian Government in aid to the Expanded Immunization Program through the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) arrived in Vietnam and the Ministry of Health allocated 8,100 doses to Ho Chi Minh City.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City has about 7,500 children aged 2-18 months who have not received the first dose of the 5-in-1 vaccine. Therefore, in this vaccination campaign, the city prioritizes giving the first dose of the vaccine to children aged 2-18 months living in the area, then will continue to vaccinate children who have not received the second dose.

From January 2 to January 4, children from 2 months to 18 months old living in Ho Chi Minh City who have not received the first dose will be vaccinated, and from January 5 to January 6, children who have not received enough doses of DPT-VGB-Hib (SII) vaccine will be vaccinated with the second dose (priority will be given to children from 3 months old first).
