Hanoi Department of Education and Training talks about the announcement time of the third exam subject for grade 10

The Hanoi Department of Education and Training said it has not announced the third exam subject for grade 10 in the 2025-2026 school year in February like many other provinces and cities.

While provinces and cities are rushing to announce the third exam subject for grade 10 next school year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training said the third exam subject will be announced in March instead of February as desired by students and schools.

This agency is urgently researching and drafting a plan for admission to the first grades of the 2025-2026 school year, including admission to grade 10. Admission to grade 10 will be conducted by examination, including two subjects: literature and math; the third exam subject is expected to be announced next March.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City not only finalized the third exam subject the earliest in the country, but also announced the 10th grade entrance exam schedule for 2025 on June 6 and 7 with 3 subjects including math, literature and foreign language.

At this time, about 20 provinces and cities have announced the third exam subject for grade 10, of which no locality has chosen randomly but all have designated a foreign language or specifically English.

It is noted that parents with children studying in grade 9 in Hanoi this year are very worried and anxious, wanting to know about the third exam subject so that they can prepare more carefully because this year is the first year of the entrance exam to grade 10 with many changes. Most opinions hope that Hanoi will choose foreign language as the third exam subject like previous years and like other provinces and cities.

According to Circular No. 30/2024/TT-BGDDT on regulations on junior high school and high school admission issued by the Ministry of Education and Training on December 30, 2024, high school admission is organized according to one of three methods, including: admission, entrance exam, and combination of entrance exam and admission.

With the entrance exam method, students take two exams in math and literature; the third exam is chosen by the Department of Education and Training from one of two options. In option 1, the third exam is chosen from among the subjects that are evaluated by scores in the general education program at the secondary level, ensuring that the same third exam subject is not chosen for more than three consecutive years.

Option 2, the third test is a combination test of a number of subjects selected from among the subjects assessed by scores in the general education program at the secondary level. The third test or subject is announced after the end of the first semester but no later than March 31 every year.

The Department of Education and Training is responsible for developing and submitting to the Provincial People's Committee a decision to establish a high school enrollment steering committee and a decision to approve the high school enrollment plan within its management scope.

The Ministry of Education and Training has sent a document to the Departments of Education and Training requesting: "The Departments of Education and Training should urgently organize the selection and soon announce the third subject or exam according to regulations to facilitate students in completing the program and reviewing, preparing well for the conditions, creating a mentality of readiness to take the exam and achieving good results."
