Two roads along Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canals running through 7 districts in Ho Chi Minh City will open some sections to traffic on April 30.
The Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len Canal Infrastructure Construction and Environmental Improvement Project (connecting Long An province via Cho Dem River and Binh Duong and Dong Nai provinces via Saigon River) has a total length of about 32.714km. Construction started in February 2023 and the capital increased to more than VND 9,000 billion, and is now accelerating to open some items to traffic.
Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal running through 7 districts will be completed in 2025.
On March 15, information from the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor) said that the Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Rach Nuoc Len canal renovation project has now reached more than 45% of the work volume. Most of the bid packages have completed the installation of prestressed concrete embankments, technical trench systems and drainage culverts, ready to deploy the construction of the road surface on both sides of the canal.
It is expected that some canal-side roads passing through District 12, Go Vap and Tan Binh will be paved in April and opened to traffic on the occasion of April 30. The entire project, including two canal-side roads, will be completed and put into operation by the end of 2025.
According to the investor, the two canal-side roads of Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Rach Nuoc Len, each side is more than 30km long, 8 - 12m wide, passing through 7 districts including: District 12, Binh Tan, Tan Phu, Tan Binh, Go Vap, Binh Thanh and Binh Chanh district.
Some canal-side roads have been paved and are ready for traffic.
When completed, the two routes will help people travel conveniently, and at the same time, create more open urban space like the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa routes along Nhieu Loc - Thi Nghe canal that have been successfully implemented.
In addition, this route will significantly reduce the load on National Highway 1 when it becomes a parallel traffic route, making travel between districts easier.
There are currently 16 bridges across the entire canal. However, in the near future, the city plans to add large-scale bridges due to increased travel demand. Of these, the Vam Thuat bridge (connecting District 12 with Binh Thanh District) is the largest in scale, with an estimated total investment of more than 1,100 billion VND. Next is the Hong Ky bridge (connecting Binh Tan District with Binh Chanh District), with an estimated total investment of about 643 billion VND...

Below the canal, the entire Tham Luong - Ben Cat - Nuoc Len canal will be dredged with a canal bottom width of 30 - 90m and a depth of 5m. When completed, it will help drain water, prevent flooding, solve pollution, and connect traffic infrastructure.
Workers and machinery are speeding up construction of canal-side roads that are about to be put into operation.
The project will also beautify the urban area and improve the regional environment, while contributing with other projects to ensure waterway traffic according to inland waterway standards.
