According to information from Cao Bang province, this morning, August 25, the rain has stopped, many areas in the center of Cao Bang city are dry. However, in the areas along the Bang and Hien rivers, the flooding situation is still serious due to heavy rain last night.
On the evening of August 24, heavy rain continued to fall on Cao Bang city, making the flood situation more tense.
As of this morning, the water level of Bang and Hien rivers is still rising, causing many riverside residential areas in Cao Bang city and Hoa An district to be flooded nearly 1 meter deep.
The amount of water from upstream is still pouring in, not decreasing compared to yesterday, making the flooding even more serious.
According to the report of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Cao Bang province, by the evening of August 24, heavy rain had caused localized flooding in many areas, such as Quang Vinh commune (Trung Khanh district) and Xuan Hoa town (Ha Quang district), with flooding levels ranging from 0.5-1m.
The Bang and Gam rivers rose, causing flooding in riverside areas.
Preliminary inspection showed that 462 houses were affected, including 1 house completely collapsed due to landslide in Nuoc Hai town (Hoa An district), 407 households were flooded under 1m and 54 houses had landslides.
The area of rice and crops flooded reached 1,319.79 hectares. Traffic was also severely affected with 69 roads being eroded and 3 irrigation works damaged.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Cao Bang City has directed wards and communes to be on duty 24/7 and announced many phone numbers of local leaders to support people when they need rescue.
In Hoa An district, the government has also announced emergency phone numbers for families experiencing problems.
Authorities have evacuated households from dangerous areas, especially 27 households in Canh Bien hamlet (Nguyen Hue commune, Hoa An district) at high risk of landslides.
Meanwhile, warning signs have been placed at landslide sites. Rescue teams are assisting people in moving their belongings and repairing the damage.
