According to AFP , on October 21, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called for a "humanitarian ceasefire" in the war between Israel and Hamas in Gaza, and urged "global action to end this terrible nightmare."
The conflict has killed thousands and displaced a million Palestinians. Mr Guterres said “more than” 20 aid trucks were entering the besieged territory, home to 2.4 million people.

Speaking to regional leaders at the Cairo Peace Summit, Mr Guterres stressed the need for Palestinians to be "provided with continuous and adequate aid."
From 10:00 a.m. on October 21 local time (2:00 p.m. on the same day Hanoi time), a convoy of trucks carrying international humanitarian aid began passing through the Rafah Border Gate from Egypt to the southern Gaza Strip.
The first convoy of 20 vehicles from the Egyptian Red Crescent has entered Gaza, while 36 more vehicles are waiting in line to move into the blockaded territory.
Four ambulances, including two from the United Nations and two from the Red Cross, are also preparing to enter Gaza.
After the conflict with the Hamas movement that controls the Gaza Strip broke out on October 7, Israel completely surrounded the territory, cutting off electricity, water, energy and blocking the Rafah border crossing. 2.4 million Palestinians are trapped in Gaza.
Rafah is the only crossing into Gaza not controlled by Israel. But air strikes have damaged roads and prevented aid trucks from entering southern Gaza.
The international and regional communities have repeatedly urged Israel to bring urgent aid into this territory to alleviate the humanitarian disaster for the Palestinian people there.
The United Nations has warned of a humanitarian disaster in Gaza as food supplies run low and fuel supplies for hospitals to run generators are dangerously low.
