On the occasion of the first working day of the Year of the Snake 2025, United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres sent his best wishes to the leaders and people of Vietnam.
On January 30, 2025 (the second day of the Lunar New Year 2025), at the United Nations headquarters in New York (USA), Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, Head of the Permanent Mission of Vietnam to the United Nations, had a working session with United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss issues of mutual concern and Vietnam-United Nations cooperation in 2025.
According to a VNA correspondent in New York, on the occasion of the first working day of the Year of the Snake 2025, Secretary-General Guterres sent his best wishes to General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and the Vietnamese people.
The UN Secretary-General happily recalled the profound memories of his official visit in 2022 and expressed his wish to soon have the opportunity to return to visit the beautiful and hospitable country of Vietnam.
Congratulating Vietnam on its impressive achievements in socio-economic development in 2024, Secretary-General Guterres affirmed that the United Nations considers Vietnam a reliable partner and responsible member, with an increasingly important role and contribution to the international community.
Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang highly appreciated the important results achieved by the United Nations in the past year under the leadership of Secretary-General Guterres, especially the efforts and contributions to promoting a ceasefire in the Middle East, accelerating the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and responding to new global challenges.
The Head of the Vietnamese Delegation affirmed his support for the Secretary-General's priorities across all pillars of the United Nations' work in 2025, emphasizing that Vietnam always wishes and is ready to make increasingly effective and substantive contributions to the common work of the United Nations.
Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang respectfully conveyed the invitation of the Party and State of Vietnam to Secretary-General Guterres to pay an official visit to Vietnam as soon as possible.
Emphasizing the significance of 2025 as the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and the United Nations celebrating its 80th anniversary, in the context of the world facing many intertwined opportunities and challenges, Secretary-General Guterres and Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang affirmed that the two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation and coordinate efforts to promote peace, security, sustainable development and address global issues.
The UN Secretary-General happily accepted the invitation of the Vietnamese high-ranking leaders and said he would arrange to visit Vietnam again at an appropriate time in 2025.
