On October 12, Axios newspaper quoted an announcement from the office of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky saying that Mr. Zelensky wanted the Israeli side to coordinate a visit by the Ukrainian leader to Tel Aviv in the near future.

Axios, citing separate sources from both Ukraine and Israel, revealed that Mr. Zelensky's visit will strengthen international support for Israel's counterattack against Hamas in Gaza.

According to Axios sources, the discussions are still in the preliminary stages and no date has been set.

Earlier, on October 11, President Zelensky visited Belgium and met with NATO defense ministers to request more weapons and ammunition. Speaking to reporters, he said international support was of great significance to Ukraine in the early days of the conflict with Russia.

“This is why I call on all leaders to visit Tel Aviv and show their support for the people of Israel. I am not talking about any organization, but about support for those affected by the recent fighting,” the Ukrainian leader said.

On October 7, Hamas launched a campaign of rocket attacks and raids on settlements in southern Israel, causing news of the conflict in Ukraine to virtually disappear from Western media.

Speaking on the issue, Mr. Zelensky told France 2: “If international attention shifts away from Ukraine, one way or another it will have consequences. The fate of Ukraine depends on the unity of the rest of the world.”

Mr Zelensky also blamed Moscow for the Hamas attacks, claiming without any evidence that Russia “helped and stood behind Hamas”. He had previously cited Ukrainian intelligence saying that Russia wanted to start a war in the Middle East to “undermine world unity” and “destroy freedom in Europe”.

Israeli Ambassador to Moscow Alexander Ben Zvi immediately dismissed the Ukrainian accusations as "complete nonsense" and said his government did not believe Russia was involved "in any way".
