On April 10, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology (HUTECH) - a founding member of the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC C4IR) - in collaboration with HCMC C4IR organized the 2nd International Scientific Conference on "Green Solutions and Emerging Technologies for Sustainable Development" - 2025 (GSETS 2025).

This is a large-scale and influential science and technology event, gathering leading domestic and international experts, opening up opportunities for exchange and cooperation in research on new materials and technologies, towards realizing the United Nations' sustainable development goals.

The conference focuses on three main topic groups: advanced materials and green manufacturing technology, technological solutions for sustainable development, and data science - artificial intelligence for sustainable development.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Huy, Deputy Director of HCMC C4IR, said that the Center will play an essential role in connecting policy, technology and implementation capacity, promoting a modern and smart industrial ecosystem in Ho Chi Minh City and enhancing Vietnam's competitiveness in the global value chain.

Since September last year, the unit has officially launched in Vietnam, becoming one of the active members of the global innovation network. Currently, there are about 24 similar centers in the world and Vietnam is one of the important connecting points, after Malaysia.

According to its operational orientation, HCMC C4IR focuses on promoting cooperation with universities, especially units under Ho Chi Minh City National University. The two sides have jointly developed a coordination plan, focusing on areas such as artificial intelligence (AI), smart manufacturing, semiconductors, and applied technologies for sustainable development.

In the coming time, the goal is to continue connecting international resources, establishing specific cooperation and proposing appropriate policy mechanisms to "popularize AI" for the people.

"How can everyone know and apply AI to serve their lives and work... We cannot do it alone, but must coordinate with all relevant parties. It is expected that in the coming time, we will concretize the plan and have a proposal to submit to the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee for consideration and approval and submit to the City People's Council to issue a separate resolution on popularizing AI," said Mr. Huy.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Hoan emphasized that in the context of increasingly serious climate change and resource depletion, sustainable development is no longer an option but an inevitable requirement.

Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciated the conference's theme, which is in line with global trends and close to the strategic orientation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW on science, technology and digital transformation to 2030, with a vision to 2045.

With the orientation of building a modern and sustainable city, Ho Chi Minh City has demonstrated a strong commitment through cooperation with the World Economic Forum (WEF) to establish the Center for the Fourth Industrial Revolution in Ho Chi Minh City - the second member in Southeast Asia in the global network of 21 C4IRs of WEF.

In 2025, the Center will carry out many important strategic tasks, including: Cooperating with WEF to provide global perspectives, policy proposals for Ho Chi Minh City and the whole country, implementing Resolution 57; operating a sandbox model on new technologies, especially artificial intelligence; developing key projects on green transformation, renewable energy, green finance, sustainable industry; advising on policies for the International Finance Center and the national strategy on the 4th Industrial Revolution to 2030.

Within the framework of GSETS 2025, HUTECH held the launching ceremony of the international scientific journal Materials and Emerging Technology for Sustainability (METS), gathering nearly 20 experts and scientists from countries such as the US, Australia, Japan, Korea, Italy, India, China, etc.

METS is an academic forum to share research and innovation achievements of Vietnamese and international scientists in the field of technology and sustainable development.
