Fox News reported on November 23 that US President Joe Biden and his family returned to billionaire David Rubenstein's residence on Nantucket Island (Massachusetts) for Thanksgiving.

Air Force One landed at Nantucket airport on the evening of November 21 (local time) and the president's family and secret service immediately departed for Mr. Rubenstein's 14-acre seaside residence.

The president’s family will also celebrate his 81st birthday (November 20) with a traditional coconut cake, according to White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. Biden plans to make a call with U.S. troops on Thanksgiving Day, but has no other public events scheduled.

On November 24, Mr. Biden is expected to go to downtown Nantucket to attend the tree lighting ceremony on Main Street, something he has done for the past two years.

The Nantucket Current reported that the president's security team had been preparing for his visit for days, with C-17 Globemasters and other aircraft delivering vehicles, equipment and other supplies.

Many Massachusetts state police officers have been ferrying to the island since November 20, while hotels are filled with Secret Service agents, government employees and reporters from elsewhere.

Billionaire Rubenstein is a lawyer, businessman and philanthropist with an estimated net worth of over $3.5 billion. He is the co-founder and co-chairman of The Carlyle Group, one of the world's largest private equity firms with assets of over $382 billion globally and 29 offices around the world.

The billionaire has invited the Biden family to spend Thanksgiving through at least 2021. His private residence has multiple guest houses, tennis courts, swimming pools and other amenities with an estimated total value of $34 million (VND822 billion). He bought the property in 1998 for $8 million and expanded the area, adding five guest areas.

He is not a major political donor, but before entering the private sector, he served as an adviser to the late President Jimmy Carter, according to Forbes magazine. He is currently the chairman of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts.
