Living a religious life in everyday life
Suffering from a serious illness and unable to work, Mr. Vo Nam (An Thanh village, Duy Trung commune, Duy Xuyen district) fell into a difficult situation, without a house to live in. In his dire straits, he was helped by parishioners of Hoa Lam parish (Duy Trung commune). Some contributed money, some contributed labor, and parishioners built a spacious house for Mr. Vo Nam's family, with a total of 200 million VND.
Mr. Vo Nam's family is one of many cases, including Catholics in Duy Trung commune, that have been helped by charitable activities of Catholics.
At the Hiep Duc Evangelical Church, “Meals of Love” are maintained regularly to serve poor patients being treated at the Hiep Duc District Medical Center. Every Saturday, the believers of the church gather at Hiep Duc Church to cook meals of love. The funds are mobilized by the Hiep Duc Evangelical Church from many sources, and recently local believers have also contributed.
Quang Nam province currently has about 15% of its population following a religion; of which about 25,000 are Catholics and about 22,000 are Protestants.
With the motto “good life - good religion”, the parishioners, in addition to performing religious activities well and in accordance with the law, also comply with the policies and laws of the Party and the State; actively participate in patriotic emulation movements launched by the locality. The Christian people have responded and participated in many practical and effective models of activities in the campaign “All people unite to build new rural areas, civilized urban areas, live a good life and good religion”.
One of the key contents is to mobilize believers to participate in environmental protection and family economic development. Some models have brought good results such as: "Religious solidarity groups with environmental protection work", "Bright - green - clean - beautiful" model. Responding to the annual World Environment Day, many religious worship facilities and local authorities coordinate to implement models of tree planting, waste treatment... contributing to environmental protection.
Unite to build the homeland
The Vietnam Fatherland Front has always promoted its role in mobilizing and gathering religious and non-religious people to build a great national unity bloc, build and protect the Fatherland. Recently, the Quang Nam Provincial Fatherland Front has chaired meetings to listen to the thoughts and aspirations of Catholic and Protestant dignitaries and officials. Many opinions at the meetings were summarized by the Front and reported to the Party Committee and authorities.
Representing Catholic compatriots speaking at the 2024 Christmas meeting, Bishop Dang Duc Ngan - Coadjutor Archbishop of Hue Archdiocese - Administrator of the Archdiocese of Da Nang shared: "Looking back at the 27-year history of re-establishing the province, with the determination to make breakthroughs and innovations, Quang Nam has shaped its weighty values with the consensus of all Quang Nam people, including Catholic compatriots.
Catholics feel secure and invited to contribute to building their own good values, not only the religious values of faith and love, but also spreading opportunities as citizens to contribute to building their homeland.
Pastor Vo Dinh Dan - Head of the Representative Board of the Evangelical Church of Vietnam (South) in Quang Nam province commented: “The provincial front is a common home to bring solidarity and unity in the community as well as among religions. Between Catholics and non-Catholics, we always apply solidarity and unity to build our homeland together. That is what we should do, not only should do but must do to have a better homeland and society.”
Another Christmas season has come to Christian believers in many rural areas of Quang Nam. Christian dignitaries, officials and compatriots are eagerly entering a peaceful and happy Christmas season!
