145 students of the first class of VinUni University have just "left the nest" to "fly high" in an emotional graduation ceremony that took place yesterday morning, June 29. 25% of the new graduates have been accepted for postgraduate training by the world's most prestigious universities such as Harvard, Cornell, Pennsylvania, 32% have been offered jobs by the world's leading global corporations even before graduating. Some graduates receive salaries of up to 7,500 USD/month (nearly 190 million VND/month) for working abroad...
“Choose VinUni because of the belief in an ambitious educational project”
Four years ago, VinUni University opened its first academic year with a selective scale: 230 students were selected from 4,500 applications. Among them was Giap Vu Nam Duong - a student of Business and Administration, who was hired by the startup company with a novel business model StoryCo (USA) before graduation with a dream salary.
In 2020, while studying in grade 12 at Hanoi - Amsterdam High School for the Gifted, Nam Duong won scholarships from 4 universities in the US. However, Nam Duong's father - Mr. Giap Van Duong - convinced his daughter to study at VinUni - a completely new name on the map of higher education in Vietnam as well as the world.
“Looking back 4 years ago, we see that our choice was correct. Nam Duong lived abroad since he was young, and returned to Vietnam when he was in middle school. Vietnamese culture had not really been absorbed, so we wanted him to truly become Vietnamese before stepping out into the world,” Mr. Giap Van Duong shared.
From his own experience, Mr. Duong realized that when working abroad, friends and colleagues respect people from the S-shaped country not only because of professional expertise, but more deeply, because we are truly Vietnamese. Therefore, he wants his daughter to be Vietnamese, know how to wear ao dai, eat fish sauce, and admire lotus flowers before going to study abroad.
In particular, Mr. Duong also has a special affection for Vingroup's educational projects from the beginning. It is a journey from "zero" to "one"; a journey full of passion and emotion; a journey where both teachers and students learn a lot from each other.
“Therefore, I completely trusted sending my child to study at VinUni, even though it was the first batch of students, with nothing to verify the quality of training, except for the belief in an ambitious educational project,” Mr. Giap Van Duong recalled.
Also choosing VinUni for his child based on trust, but Mr. Phan Anh - parent of student Phan Hai Dang, School of Business and Administration, affirmed that the trust is well-founded.
Four years ago, Hai Dang turned down scholarships from a series of Australian universities to study at VinUni. Now, Hai Dang is recruited as Assistant General Manager of Vinpearl after an internship there even though he has not officially graduated.
Observing the reality of VinUni students and his son, Mr. Phan Anh commented that VinUni has created a solid academic foundation for its students. Students are placed at the center of the training process, personalized and unleashed to their maximum potential.
In addition, the network of relationships that students achieve when studying at VinUni is an elite, valuable network, including peer relationships, relationships between students and lecturers, and between students and the community.
“Although it is a very young and entirely Vietnamese university, VinUni has met the standards of a world university,” Mr. Phan Anh assessed.
Setting international standards right in Vietnam
Cooperating with the world's leading universities to achieve the highest standards in research and teaching in Vietnam, VinUni's academic program is not easy to conquer. That is the common opinion of VinUni parents after 4 years of witnessing their children's "transformation" journey.
Right from the start, the school selects students according to the model of elite universities around the world, requiring students to have 4 qualities: outstanding academic ability, strong passion, creative thinking and resilience.
Mr. Nam Chau - parent of student Nguyen Hoang Van Anh, VinUni's 2022 Outstanding Student Award winner, assessed that VinUni's academic program has a large amount of knowledge, studying and working in parallel, requiring each student to make extraordinary efforts.
“You understand, pressure makes diamonds. A solid foundation of knowledge and practical experience helps you feel confident in any job,” Mr. Nam Chau shared.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Giap Van Duong believes that what is more important than the program following the highest international standards and VinUni's different educational philosophy is the opportunity for students to experience and grow.
“Knowledge can be found everywhere now, but the opportunity to experience real-life subjects and careers like at VinUni is very rare. What is more important is that VinUni's first-year students have witnessed and participated in ambitious projects. Thanks to that, they learn willpower from the people they come into contact with every day. Willpower is more important than knowledge. Once students learn willpower, they will learn how to rise up,” said Mr. Giap Van Duong.
Commenting on VinUni's future development, Mr. Giap Van Duong believes that the next generation will see the important role of VinUni in establishing international educational standards, reaching excellence, right in Vietnam.
“Establishing VinUni’s excellent educational standards will serve as a reference and inspire change for other universities,” said Mr. Giap Van Duong.
Also from the success of the first graduating class - a testament to VinUni's reputation and training quality, Mr. Phan Anh affirmed: "I have strong faith that VinUni will go further in the future, entering the Top 50 young universities in the world as the goal set 4 years ago".
