According to statistics from the Hanoi Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Veterinary Medicine, Hanoi is the city with the largest herd of cows in the Red River Delta region. Since 2012, implementing the free artificial insemination program for cows, the city has introduced new breeds of cows with high productivity and quality into production. The quality of the cow herd has been significantly improved. The artificial insemination rate on dairy cows has reached 100%, and on beef cows has reached over 90%.

Every year, Hanoi City supplies the market with high-quality, productive crossbred cattle breeds such as: Brahman, Droghmatterr, BBB, Senepol, Charolai, Angus, Wagyu... Increasing the average weight at maturity (24 months old) from 220-300 kg/head (yellow cow) to 350-380 kg/head (laisind cow) and up to now the weight of high-quality crossbred cattle breeds (BBB, Charolai, Angus, Wagyu) has increased to 480-650 kg/head. Increasing the meat yield ratio from 43% to 63%.

In general, the new breeds of cattle have brought economic efficiency to farmers from 8 to 10 million VND/calf. In addition, the work of improving the base cow herd with Brahman and Senepol semen is the premise for the application of high technology in crossbreeding and producing beef cattle in Hanoi.

The breed structure is diverse with high-quality beef breeds: 65% Zebu crossbred cattle, over 30% meat-oriented crossbred cattle (BBB, Senepol, Droughmaster, Angus, Wayu...); the artificial insemination rate on the breeding herd reaches over 90%, the number of calves born from artificial insemination is about 60,000/year, providing the market with more than 50,000 breeding cows and calves of all kinds, including: BBB, Angus, Wayu, Charolais, Brahman... Crossbred cattle sold at 18-24 months old reach 550-650kg. Developing breeding work according to 03 strategic groups: Specialized meat (F1, F2 BBB), specialized high-quality meat (F1 Wagyu), dual-purpose (Brahman crossbred; Charolais; Senepol...).

The Hanoi Department of Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Veterinary Medicine said that, assigned by the Hanoi People's Committee to be the investor in implementing the project "Application of research results on crossbreeding BBB cattle on the basis of F1 crossbred cattle for meat in Hanoi", from 2012 to present, Hanoi Livestock Breeding Joint Stock Company has deployed in 16 districts and towns.

Up to now, the project has produced over 338,000 F1 BBB calves, increasing the productivity of crossbred beef cattle compared to previous crossbred breeds by 20% - 30%, improving the level of livestock farming for livestock farmers in Hanoi. Producing over 170,000 tons of high-quality F1 BBB beef to meet the consumption needs of Hanoi people.

The value of products produced by the F1 BBB herd is estimated at over 13,000 billion VND; the added value compared to other breeds at the same time is nearly 3,300 billion VND; increasing the meat yield of beef cattle. Survey results show that F1 BBB beef in the period of 18 months to 24 months is effective, the meat quality and the highest meat yield and lean meat yield. The meat yield is from 59% - 60%, lean meat is 50% - 51%.

Thus, with the results of the project survey, the set goal of increasing the beef carcass rate to 59% - 60% (the project goal is to increase the carcass rate from 46% to 57 - 60%). Based on the results of the analysis of meat quality indicators of the National Institute of Nutrition, it can be seen that F1 BBB beef is of higher quality than other types of beef, including beef imported from Australia and the US. In particular, some important indicators and traits in the nutritional composition of meat quality such as Protein, energy, soluble fat, Omega 3, Zn, Fe of F1 BBB beef are all higher than other types of beef.

The company has researched, mastered the technology and successfully produced frozen semen in straw form for foreign breeds: BBB; Charolais; Brahman; Senepol; Angus; HF dairy cows from the modern frozen semen production line of the Federal Republic of Germany. Importing purebred bulls from countries with developed livestock farming such as Belgium, the US, Australia and mastering high technology in producing frozen semen in straw form at the Company helps the breeding of cows in Hanoi and other localities save about 70% of the cost compared to previously having to use imported semen.

Mr. Ta Van Tuong - Deputy Director of Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said that Hanoi is the first unit in the country to successfully crossbreed and develop the F1 BBB cow breed, ensuring quality, increasing competitiveness with imported products and helping farmers increase their income.

Hanoi Livestock Breeding Joint Stock Company was permitted by the City to build a high-quality bull semen production center to proactively supply semen to Hanoi and other provinces and cities nationwide.

The import of purebred BBB bulls for care, raising and successful semen production at the company helps the breeding of BBB bulls in Hanoi as well as other localities nationwide, saving about 70% of costs compared to previously having to use imported BBB bull semen.
