Hanoi's Cheick Timite made a dirty play, causing Ho Chi Minh City FC to lose a player in the 3rd minute, before losing 1-3 to Hanoi FC in round 10 of V-League 2023-2024.

In the second minute, Timite was hit by a dirty play by Hanoi FC midfielder Brandon Wilson, who swung his arm. The Ho Chi Minh City FC striker lost his cool and headbutted Wilson in the face. Referee Nguyen Manh Hai initially only gave Timite a yellow card, but VAR intervened and suggested a red card. Referee Manh Hai went to the sideline to review the video before returning to erase the yellow card and show a red card to send Timite off.

In the 37th minute, Van Quyet continued to play the role of creator with a cross from a free kick from the left wing for Xuan Manh to head at the far post, but the goal was disallowed after VAR checked for offside. Ho Chi Minh City responded for the first time with a shot from the right wing by Ngo Tung Quoc in the first minute of stoppage time, but could not beat goalkeeper Quan Van Chuan.

Hanoi FC still dominated the second half with many attacks, but it was not until the 69th minute that they doubled the gap. Do Duy Manh passed the ball from the right wing for Hai Long to handle neatly, changing direction and rushing into the penalty area. The midfielder born in 2000 had space and immediately shot diagonally, sending the ball into the top corner, giving Patrik Le Giang no chance to block.

But while engrossed in their attack, Hanoi FC was unexpectedly counterattacked in the 87th minute. From a pass from his teammate, centre-back Brendon Lucas received the ball and calmly handled it in the penalty area, before his shot hit Duy Manh's foot and changed direction, causing Van Chuan to miss, narrowing the score. But that was also the last effort of the away team.

In the third minute of injury time, substitute defender Van Dung passed the ball over the line for Joel Tagueu to escape. After a toe-poke, Van Quyet received the ball in the penalty area and shot diagonally past goalkeeper Le Giang, but the linesman raised the offside flag. However, after two minutes of checking, VAR confirmed that this situation was not offside, thereby helping Van Quyet score his second goal in the 2023-2024 V-League.
