The Border Campaign took place from September 16 to October 14, 1950, and was a strategically significant victory in the resistance war against France.
Notably, this was the first and only time in the history of the resistance war against France and the US that President Ho Chi Minh directly went to the front to observe and direct the campaign, with historical images recording the moment he observed the Dong Khe battle that opened the campaign. Also in this campaign, General, Commander-in-Chief Vo Nguyen Giap was appointed as Secretary of the Front Party Committee, Commander and Political Commissar of the campaign.
The Border Campaign ended with us destroying an important part of the enemy's forces, expanding and consolidating the Viet Bac base, liberating the northern border of our country, breaking the siege, opening up communication with China and other socialist countries, connecting our country's revolution with the world revolution, and at the same time marking a leap forward in the art of campaigning and the remarkable growth of our army, changing the situation of the war, moving towards taking the initiative on the main battlefield, contributing to bringing the resistance war against France to victory with the peak being the Dien Bien Phu campaign in 1954 "famous in five continents, shaking the world".
