At the training conference on inspection and examination of the 2024 high school graduation exam held in Ho Chi Minh City on May 31, the Ministry of Education and Training said that this year, the whole country has 1,071,395 candidates registered to take the exam, an increase of about 45,000 candidates compared to last year.
Of these, 37% of candidates registered for the natural science exam (physics, chemistry, biology) and 63% of candidates chose the social science exam (history, geography, civics). Compared to last year, the number of candidates choosing the social science exam increased by 7.7%.
The 2024 high school graduation exam will take place from June 26 to 28. Candidates will take four compulsory exams, including math, literature, foreign language and one of two exams in natural science or social science.
In this year's exam, the Ministry of Education and Training established 10 direct inspection teams for the direction and preparation of the exam at 20 Departments of Education and Training nationwide.
Local Departments of Education and Training establish inspection teams to inspect exam preparation and exam printing areas.
Regarding exam supervision, the Ministry established 63 inspection teams at 63 Departments of Education and Training to inspect the direction, organization and inspection of exams by the departments and the organization of exams by school boards and exam sites.
Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong assessed that this year's exam is important because this is the last year of high school graduation exams according to the 2006 general education program. From next year, graduation exams will begin for students according to the 2018 general education program.
The exam still aims at the important purpose of considering high school graduation, assessing the quality of education and training, and at the same time serving as a basis for admission to universities and colleges.
Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong requested units and localities to do a good job of preparing and organizing the exam, with close coordination; absolutely not to be negligent or subjective at any stage; the preparation must be thorough, and the implementation must be in accordance with regulations, because just one mistake will cause huge consequences for the purpose, requirements, and quality of the exam.
In particular, timely inspection work helps ensure fairness and objectivity for the exam. Therefore, all localities need to seriously and responsibly carry out inspection and examination work at all stages of the exam.
