The indomitable spirit of futsal girls

The Vietnamese women's futsal team had a smooth start in the qualifying round of the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship with a 5-1 victory over Myanmar. In the second match, coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team continued to defeat the Macau team with an unbelievable score of 21-0. The all-win record after 2 matches and a goal difference of +25 helped Tran Thi Thuy Trang and her teammates gain an advantage, as they only needed a draw against the Taiwanese team in the final match to secure a place in the final round as the top team in Group D.

In the important match against Taiwan yesterday (January 19), the Vietnamese women's futsal team was unexpectedly without their number one striker Nguyen Phuong Anh. Phuong Anh is a key factor in coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's tactics, as this female striker contributed 5 goals after 2 matches (the highest on the team). As a result, the Vietnamese women's futsal team had a difficult 40 minutes against the Taiwanese team. The Vietnamese girls had to chase the score to win 1 point against an opponent who was considered equally strong.

Without the presence of Nguyen Phuong Anh, the attack of the Vietnamese women's futsal team lost an excellent "fuse" who was capable of threatening the opponent's goal. The Vietnamese women's futsal team fell behind twice (1-0 and 2-1). Thanks to the resilient fighting spirit and reasonable tactics of coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang, the Vietnamese girls were able to gain 1 point when there was only about 1 minute left in the match. Le Thi Thanh Ngan (scored in the 11th minute) and Bien Thi Hang (scored in the 39th minute) were the 2 players who helped the Vietnamese women's futsal team escape a defeat in the qualifying round.

The Vietnamese and Taiwanese women's futsal teams both have 2 wins, 1 draw, and 7 points. However, coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team is ranked higher thanks to a higher goal difference, 25 compared to 22.

The 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship is a playground to help the Vietnamese women's futsal team's dream of participating in the World Cup, when the 3 teams with the highest achievements in the tournament will qualify for the 2025 Women's Futsal World Cup (organized for the first time).

The 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship Qualifiers will feature 18 teams, divided into four groups (two groups of four and two groups of five). The first and second-placed teams in each group, along with the third-placed team with the best record, will advance. Twelve teams, including nine qualifiers, plus hosts China and the two finalists from the previous tournament (Japan and Iran), will compete in the finals in China from May 7 to 18, 2025.

The 12 teams are divided into 3 groups, playing in a round-robin format to determine rankings. The first and second-placed teams in each group, along with the two third-placed teams with the best records, will continue to play in the quarter-finals.
