Actors Hoa Thuan as Tran Canh and Ta Lam as Ly Chieu Hoang in the play "Beauty and Hero"
On the evening of April 13, the play "Beauty and Hero" (author: Chu Thom, director: Meritorious Artist Vo Minh Lam) was staged as one of the plays by a young theater director that Ho Chi Minh City audiences were looking forward to. Although Vo Minh Lam had not chosen it as his university graduation play, he only considered this work as his first play to hone himself, but the performance on the evening of April 13 received praise from the audience and experts.

First of all, we must acknowledge the strong support of Song Viet Performance Company Limited - Dai Viet New Stage for creating all conditions for Meritorious Artist Vo Minh Lam to perform this Vietnamese historical play. Next is his own effort in telling the historical story about the period when the character Tran Thu Do arranged the transfer of power, so that the characters: Ly Chieu Hoang, Tran Canh, Thuan Thien had their own roles in the Grand Tutor's plan.
Editing the script by Joseph Hieu Trung also created sympathy when the story structure was easier to understand and coherent. Under the artistic direction of People's Artist Tran Ngoc Giau, the play created sympathy from the public, told with emotion on a beautiful backdrop created by stage designer Tran Hong Van.

This is a script written by author Chu Thom in 2008. At that time, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism launched a literary and artistic writing contest in response to the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long - Hanoi. He wrote about a character named Ly Chieu Hoang, reflecting a special historical period of the nation, which was the transition period between the Ly and Tran dynasties.
Meritorious Artist Vo Minh Lam confided that there have been many stage works about this period. The character Ly Chieu Hoang was also the main character in the play "Bamboo Forest" by writer Nguyen Dinh Thi. The two characters Tran Thi Dung and Tran Thu Do have also been mentioned in many works, but he has found sympathy and worked hard to create a stage design that is not "incompatible" with any director, while still convincing the audience.

Although it was just a slice of Ly Chieu Hoang's life, the audience was moved when the play's story brought them to the tragic and tearful life of the character from the age of 9 to 60. Actress Ta Lam played Ly Chieu Hoang with a lot of emotion. Although she is a young actress, she has a very strong inner strength, clearly expressing her feelings in the relationships with her mother, her sister, and Tran Canh.
In her performances, she condemned Tran Thu Do for forcing Ly Hue Tong to abdicate the throne to her, when he was only 9 years old. Then, a year later, Ly Chieu Hoang married Tran Canh and abdicated the throne to her husband, becoming queen. She lived with Tran Canh for 10 years, gave birth to a child but unfortunately died young. And in order to have an heir, Tran Thu Do forced Tran Canh to marry Princess Thuan Thien, the wife of Tran Lieu, Tran Canh's older brother. Even more tragically, after 20 years, Tran Canh himself was the one who married his wife off - forcing Ly Chieu Hoang to remarry Le Phu Tran.

Sharing the same miserable fate, Meritorious Artist Vo Minh Lam's staging has created a very different portrait of Ly Chieu Hoang. "The character is a beautiful woman who sacrificed her life so that the country could be in a peaceful transition without bloodshed. I found sympathy with author Chu Thom when I saw the love story of Ly Chieu Hoang and Tran Canh as a legend.
Above all, both of them have cultivated Dai Viet with a pure heart, using extraordinary wisdom and awareness to beautify the country. Many historians have analyzed the merits and demerits of Tran Thu Do, but in this work, I emphasize that even if the old is lost, the new will come and the inevitable law that cannot be resisted is that the people involved see it, firmly hold the oars to make the country prosperous.
Ly Chieu Hoang's life was all arranged by Tran Thu Do's hand. She was like a puppet, but she still considered him a hero. The character understood that Tran Thu Do brought the family lineage above the country, but in the end, it was also for Dai Viet" - Meritorious Artist Vo Minh Lam said.

The play also features two fictional characters, an old and a young historian. They comment on what they see and record it in real life on the pages of history as the voice of the people. After nearly three months of preparation and staging, all efforts were put into Meritorious Artist Vo Minh Lam to create a simple but expressive stage.
For the first time, the scenery was presented in a very luxurious manner in a historical play. From this motivation, Meritorious Artist Vo Minh Lam confidently continued to create new plays with his experience and responded to the admiration that the public had for him.
The play features the following actors:
Ta Lam as Ly Chieu Hoang
Harmony: Tran Canh
Huynh Lam Khoi : Tran Thu Do
Cao Thuy Vy: Tran Thi Dung
