Last week, journalist Sarah Hagi resurrected old tweets from Sofía Gascón, in which she made derogatory remarks about Muslims, called George Floyd a “druggie fraud” and mocked the 2021 Oscars.

Despite quickly apologizing, Sofía Gascón did not stop there and continued to fight with netizens on Instagram, while affirming that she would not withdraw from the Oscar race.

This event only added fuel to the fire when before. Emilia Perez was considered Oscar bait, highly appreciated by critics but heavily criticized by audiences.

According to internal sources of The Guardian reports that Netflix has now shifted its Oscar campaign to Zoe Saldaña, Gascón's co-star in the film, to mitigate the damage.

However, public opinion is still boiling, especially when critics compare Gascón to Donald Trump because of her defiant statements.

The rumors around The Brutalist good Anora The previous one also exploded in a similar way, showing the power of the online community in shaping the current and future Oscar race.

With Netflix stopping sponsoring Sofía Gascón to attend events in the US, what happens to her and Emilia Perez at this year's Oscars is still a big question mark.

However, one thing is certain: from now on, film studios will have to be more careful with the "digital footprint" of candidates before entering this prestigious race.

The Future of AI Technology at the Oscars

AI technology has become an integral part of the film industry. AI tools are now widely used to assist with visual effects (VFX), face replacement, voice editing, and image optimization.

Some notable movies like A Complete Unknown, Dune: Part Two and Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga has applied AI to improve image quality, saving time and production costs.

For example, in Furiosa , AI helps smoothly transition the main character's face from young to adult, while Dune: Part Two Use AI to recreate blue eyes for Fremen characters.

The debate broke out when The Brutalist was caught using AI to edit some Hungarian dialogue without disclosing it.

Director Brady Corbet confirmed that AI was only used to refine the tone, not to interfere with the acting of Adrien Brody or Felicity Jones.

Meanwhile, Emilia Perez also noted the use of AI in post-production, raising concerns about transparency in the film production process.

According to Variety , industry experts say that while AI can help improve the quality of films, public disclosure of its use is necessary to ensure fairness, especially during awards season.

Interview with the newspaper Variety , a veteran member of the Academy emphasized: “Award decisions must be based on human contributions. AI technology can assist, but cannot completely replace artists.”

Following the above events, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences is considering adjusting Oscar regulations, requiring films to publicly disclose the use of artificial intelligence (AI).

This is an attempt to find a balance between technological innovation and fairness in evaluating works.

Currently, this disclosure is optional, but the Academy is working on making it mandatory from the 2026 Oscars.
