As soon as the school bell rang, hundreds of students from all grades of Lao Cai City High School No. 1 rushed to their favorite sports playgrounds to practice and compete. After each class, playing my favorite sports helps me dispel stress and fatigue, especially giving me good health and a refreshing spirit to enter the next classes."

…to prestigious arenas

Luu Thi Duyen and Hoang Thi Duyen are the most prominent names in Lao Cai high-performance sports in recent years. The "golden girls" of the borderland have "made waves" in international boxing and weightlifting arenas such as SEA Games, ASIAD, winning prestigious medals for their homeland and country... What is special is that both Luu Thi Duyen and Hoang Thi Duyen are not "children of the sport family" but were sought and discovered at school sports activities in Pho Lu town, Bao Thang district and Dong Tuyen commune, Lao Cai city.

It is known that in order to discover sports talents, every year the "scouts" of the Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center must spread out to districts, towns, cities, and even to neighboring provinces such as Lai Chau, Yen Bai, and Ha Giang to "pave the sand for gold".

The provincial Sports Training and Competition Center is currently training 16 cyclists, of which 6 are currently playing for the national youth cycling team. What is special is that these 6 cyclists are all ethnic minorities, coming from villages and hamlets in the province. Specifically, racer Chao Ong Lu Phim, Dao ethnic group, Ta Phoi commune, Lao Cai city; racer Ly Do Xe, Ha Nhi ethnic group, Y Ty commune, Bat Xat district; racer Vang Van Sang, Giay ethnic group, Muong Hum commune, Bat Xat district; racer Hang A Sinh, Mong ethnic group, Ham Rong ward, Sa Pa town; racer Ban Thi Vang, Dao ethnic group, Xuan Quang commune, Bao Thang district; racer Hoang Thi Tham, Tay ethnic group, Hop Thanh commune, Lao Cai city. Before becoming the "red seeds" of high-performance sports in Lao Cai in particular and Vietnam in general, these racers all came from rural areas, even remote areas, ethnic minority areas, with many difficult economic and social conditions.

Mr. Nguyen Tien Luc, cycling coach, Provincial Sports Training and Competition Center said: With the help and introduction of physical education teachers, we have selected students with qualities suitable for cycling in general and sports in particular. What surprised us was that students in mountainous areas often meet the criteria better than their peers in cities and towns, including important criteria such as endurance, cardiovascular system and good willpower.
