Kien Giang The owner of the project demolished the entire 12-storey hotel in the center of Phu Quoc City within three months after more than a year of being fined.
On the morning of January 29, many workers with machinery and equipment began to dismantle the concrete slabs on the top three floors of the hotel. The demolition will be carried out on all 12 floors, from top to bottom. Before that, excavators created a level ground about two stories high, allowing cranes to operate on the top floors.

Outside the land, the building owner posted a notice board and assigned people to guard the area to ensure safety while the machines were operating. Mr. Vu Manh Hung, the hotel owner, said that he had spent about 100 billion VND to invest in the project. The demolition process lasted three months, with "a huge cost", but the investor did not provide specific information.
The project to be demolished is a hotel built on an area of 2,700 m2 on Tran Hung Dao Street, Cua Lap Hamlet, Duong To Commune. In August 2022, the investor was fined more than 60 million VND for not building according to the approved planning, converting nearly 500 m2 of perennial crops to non-agricultural land in a rural area.

However, the project owner only paid the administrative fine and did not comply with the demolition. In April 2023, the Phu Quoc City People's Committee planned to enforce the demolition of the project. Late last year, after many attempts to avoid it, the hotel owner asked to demolish it himself, but the city government requested that this be done before June 1, 2024.
The 12-storey hotel is one of the prominent illegal constructions in the island city, next to the 79-villa complex encroaching on public land in Duong To commune, the bungalow complex encroaching on the marine reserve... Currently, many villas and some bungalow complexes have been demolished. The People's Committee of Kien Giang province stated that it will thoroughly resolve, without exception, the hot spots of land violations on the island.
