In the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup, Thanh Binh was the youngest face of the Vietnamese team and was given the opportunity by coach Park Hang-seo to play in the first leg against the Chinese team. After being put on the field to replace Bui Tien Dung, he showed immaturity, made mistakes in positioning and marking, leading to the unfortunate 2-3 defeat of the Vietnamese team. After that, he was not allowed to move to Oman to continue playing in the World Cup qualifying round but was transferred to U.22 Vietnam. This put Binh under great pressure. But the central defender born in 2000 did not give up because of that. The mistake helped him learn many things to come back stronger. He continued to be given the opportunity by coach Park Hang-seo, scoring the only goal against the Japanese team in the third qualifying round of the 2022 World Cup. After that, he played extremely well at the 31st SEA Games to help U.22 Vietnam win the second consecutive gold medal.
Thanh Binh has played 23 matches for the Vietnamese national team, scoring 1 goal and 3 assists.
That was not the only time Thanh Binh made a mistake and then stood up strongly. In January 2024, in a match against the Indonesian team in the Asian Cup group stage, he made a fatal mistake when he blatantly pulled Rafael Struick's shirt, causing the Vietnamese team to receive a penalty and then the only goal of the match.
