On January 11, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hoang Sa island district (Da Nang city) Vo Ngoc Dong, Chief of Office of the People's Committee of the island district and Director of Hoang Sa Exhibition House Le Tien Cong and a working delegation visited Hoang Sa witnesses.
The delegation came to burn incense for Mr. Tran Van Hao (born in 1938, deceased). Mr. Hao was a person who was on duty to protect Hoang Sa archipelago from 1968 to 1974.
Next, the delegation visited Mr. Pham So (90 years old, residing in Binh Hien Ward, Hai Chau District). Mr. So's main occupation is a construction worker.
In April 1957, Mr. So went to Hoang Sa island to build a rainwater reservoir to provide fresh water for meteorological staff and local soldiers on duty to protect sovereignty on the island. In August 1957, Mr. So returned to the mainland.
The working delegation of Hoang Sa island district also visited and gave gifts to Mr. Truong Van Quang (84 years old, residing in Hoa Hai Ward, Ngu Hanh Son District).
Mr. Quang said that in 1958 he worked as a mechanical engineer on a warship. From 1959 to 1973, Mr. Quang had 10 missions to supply people working and performing tasks to protect the archipelago.
The People's Committee of Hoang Sa island district said that according to the plan, from January 11 to 13, the island district's leaders will visit and present gifts to the witnesses and their families. Specifically, in Da Nang city there are 15 witnesses, in Quang Nam there are 8 witnesses, in Thua Thien - Hue there are 2 witnesses.
At the meetings and visits to historical witnesses during this period, the working group presented the Hoang Sa Documents (68 pages thick) which had just been printed by the Hoang Sa District People's Committee. The book contains valuable documents and images about Hoang Sa as well as information and memoirs of Hoang Sa witnesses.
