Releasing fish and garbage at Palm Oil Park

Our records on April 12 (March 15th of the lunar calendar) showed that many people brought plastic bags containing live fish to the area where the Bodhisattva statue is located in the Palm Oil Park to burn incense and pray. After that, many people brought the fish to the shore of the Palm Oil Park lake to release the fish. After releasing the fish, instead of putting the plastic bags in the trash, they calmly threw them on the shore of the lake. Right at this pile of trash, someone wrote the words: “No littering. Please release the fish, take the trash away, keep clean” on a piece of foam and attached it to the Palm Oil tree as a reminder.

A woman said she often goes to Co Dau Park to release fish on the 30th, 1st and 15th of each lunar month as a way to do charity work. When asked why she littered after releasing the fish, the woman calmly said she saw others doing it so she followed suit. When reminded, the woman said she would learn from her mistakes next time.

Mr. Nguyen Van Lam, a resident of Dong Ha City, indignantly said that he had witnessed many people lacking awareness, releasing fish and then dumping garbage in Co Dau Park.

According to Mr. Lam, Co Dau Park is a green address, people need to raise awareness of environmental protection, not littering. Mr. Lam recommends that authorities increase supervision, remind, and punish those who litter, to protect the environment.
