Present at the road leading to Cua Tung bridge across the fish market, the reporter noticed that in the area in front of the market gate, although there were signs requiring parking in the right place and the Cua Tung fish market management board reminded everyone to comply, the traffic situation here was often congested, posing a risk of accidents because many motorbikes were parked in disorder, taking up a lot of road space, while on the other side of the road, cars were parked in long rows up to the foot of the bridge.
Parking like this, along with small roads, people and vehicles passing by continuously, causes traffic congestion in the Cua Tung fish market area to occur frequently, especially during rush hours from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The large number of people and vehicles, along with the fact that some infrastructure projects are being constructed in this area, not only makes it difficult for people to travel, but also poses the risk of traffic accidents that can happen at any time. In fact, there have been a number of traffic collisions here.
“Cua Tung fish market not only sells seafood products from local fishermen and neighboring areas but also supplies many other agricultural products, food, and household items. At peak times, the number of buyers and sellers and vehicles coming here is large, but the narrow space combined with poor traffic awareness makes traveling very difficult and traffic accidents are likely to occur. This has been going on for a long time, and people have repeatedly reported it to authorities at all levels,” said Mr. Tran Van Hoan, in An Duc 3 quarter, Cua Tung town.
From Nam Son village, Trung Giang commune, Gio Linh district, to trade seafood every day at Cua Tung fish market, recently the biggest worry of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuong is that the road leading to Cua Tung bridge in front of the market gate has many heavy trucks carrying sand and soil running continuously, sometimes running at high speed, honking loudly, making passersby very scared.
“The road is narrow, crowded with people and vehicles, but with heavy trucks running like this, traffic accidents can happen at any time, especially for cyclists and motorbike riders. People hope that the authorities will soon have a solution to help people travel more conveniently and safely,” Ms. Thuong suggested.
Speaking to reporters, Phan Thi Lien, Head of the Vinh Linh District Market Management Board, said that Cua Tung fish market currently has about 60 permanent businesses and many seasonal traders. Although the Market Management Board has arranged notice and instruction signs and security forces on duty to remind people, many people still park their motorbikes and cars on the sidewalk and road.
Along with that, due to its proximity to the road leading to Cua Tung bridge and the road to residential areas, the large number of vehicles passing through has caused congestion and traffic disorder in the market area during rush hour, especially on holidays and weekends.
“The unit will strengthen coordination to better disseminate information and guide people to comply with regulations on parking and ensuring traffic safety. We hope that investors and contractors will speed up construction progress to soon complete infrastructure projects through the market area. At the same time, the government needs to plan and invest in expanding the area behind the market to have more space for buying and selling goods and parking,” Ms. Lien informed.
“Cua Tung fish market is a unique cultural feature of the locality, a place for trading goods for people in Cua Tung town and neighboring areas. The traffic safety situation here is worrying. Therefore, in the coming time, the town People's Committee will coordinate with relevant agencies to find solutions to solve this problem so that people can buy, sell, and travel conveniently and safely, as well as ensure order and urban beauty,” said Nguyen Quang Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cua Tung town.
Cua Tung fish market was invested by the state in 2011 with a scale of 0.3 hectares. In 2012, this market was completed and put into use. Since then, Cua Tung fish market has repaired and upgraded a number of items to better meet the increasing demand for buying, selling and exchanging goods of the people.
In order for Cua Tung fish market to develop further and become a favorite destination for consumers and people passing through this area conveniently and safely, it is necessary for relevant agencies and units to immediately implement solutions to ensure traffic order and safety here.
