Increase connectivity in collective economy and cooperatives

Việt NamViệt Nam12/02/2025

Cooperatives are a community economic model because they are a place where disadvantaged individuals gather to do business together. In the process of development, cooperatives gather a large number of individuals and groups, which are production households and small-scale businesses. Most people who choose the cooperative model share the common goal of developing the economy with the community.

For the community, the cooperative participates in the management of local agricultural products associated with the One Commune One Product (OCOP) Program. Not only helping to build brands, the cooperative also actively completes the codes of planting areas, farming areas, and commodity codes to gradually bring production activities closer to commodity agriculture. Many localities choose the cooperative model as the management unit for collective agricultural product brands. Not only because the cooperative is one of the factors in building new rural areas, advanced new rural areas, but more importantly, local agricultural products belong to the community, are collectively owned, true to the nature of the collective economy (KTTT), cooperatives.

In the province, many cooperatives participate in agricultural and aquatic product management at the commune, district and provincial levels. For example, Xuan Phuoc Agricultural Production and Service Cooperative associated with peanuts in Xuan Phuoc Commune (Dong Xuan District); Song Cau Lobster General Service Cooperative associated with lobsters, a typical aquatic product of Song Cau Town; Phu Yen High-Tech Tuna Cooperative associated with tuna, a typical aquatic product of the province... From here, community connections are created at the commune, district and provincial levels.

On a global scale, KTTT also strengthens international connections, creating mutual support for small and scattered cooperatives in each country. In Phu Yen, most of the support from international non-governmental organizations is connected through the channel of the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance. The Vietnam Cooperative Alliance is a member of the International Cooperative Alliance, the International Fisheries Organization, the Asian Farmers' Cooperation Organization, and a tripartite partner of the International Labor Organization...

Through connections, many cooperatives in Phu Yen benefit from programs implemented by these international organizations nationwide and regionally. Typically, cooperative staff receive vocational training and human resource development support from the German Development Cooperation Organization. The Finnish Agricultural Agency for Food and Forestry Development helps small-scale forest growers obtain collective forest certification, forming a sustainable forest value chain, etc.

Currently, along with other economic sectors, KTTT is promoting digital transformation, gaining more access to technology to increase the ability to connect the community on a broader scale and in a more in-depth direction.
