Delivering a welcome speech at the ceremony, Senior Lieutenant General Trinh Van Quyet, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Director of the General Department of Politics, outlined the history of its establishment and development from the beginning as the Political Work Committee, to the development into the Political Department and from July 11, 1950 to the present, the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army; affirming the particularly important role of Party work, political work, the system of political agencies, the contingent of political cadres at all levels, especially the role of the General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army throughout the 80-year journey of building, fighting and growing of the heroic Vietnam People's Army. The General Department of Politics of the Vietnam People's Army directly advised on establishing and perfecting the Party's leadership mechanism for the Army; ensure the absolute and direct leadership of the Party in all aspects over the Army, ensure that the Army is always politically strong, build the political and spiritual factor, the basic factor that determines the fighting strength and victory of our Army, make Party work and political work truly the "soul and lifeblood" of the Army, and the basic principle in building the Party's revolutionary armed forces.
