The visit is not only an opportunity for the two countries to reaffirm their close friendship but also shows their determination to deepen and deepen their cooperation in the new period.

The official visit to Vietnam by Politburo member of the Communist Party of Cuba, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Cuba Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla from February 18-20 at the invitation of Central Committee member of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son is the first official visit to the S-shaped land by the head of Cuban diplomacy in more than 10 years, with special significance as it takes place in the context of the two countries celebrating the 65th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations (December 2, 1960 - December 2, 2025).

Strong determination

The comradely and brotherly relationship between Vietnam and Cuba is deeply demonstrated in the meetings between high-ranking Vietnamese leaders and Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla as well as the talks between the two Foreign Ministers.

At the reception for the Cuban diplomat, General Secretary To Lam recalled the good impressions of his State visit to Cuba five months ago as well as the results of his phone call on February 4 with First Secretary and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz Canel.

The General Secretary emphasized that for Vietnam, solidarity, support and cooperation with Cuba is a responsibility and morality, not only for the benefit of the two countries but also an exemplary contribution to the progressive movement in the world.

President Luong Cuong also mentioned this during his reception for the guest from the brotherly country of Cuba. Generations of Vietnamese people always deeply remember and appreciate the selfless support that Cuba gave to Vietnam during the difficult moments of the past struggle for national liberation. Vietnam always closely follows the situation in Cuba, shares Cuba's difficulties and believes that heroic Cuba will overcome all challenges and continue to achieve new victories in the cause of defending and building the country.

The presence of Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla in Hanoi on the occasion of the beginning of the “Vietnam-Cuba Friendship Year 2025” to celebrate the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations, according to Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, will contribute to further strengthening the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba. The head of the Vietnamese Government proposed to effectively promote the Intergovernmental Committee mechanism, prioritizing cooperation in the fields of food production, renewable energy, biotechnology, healthcare, and tourism.

The highlight of the visit was probably the reunion of the two Foreign Ministers, like two close friends from afar, with bright smiles and firm handshakes.

While Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the Party and State of Vietnam attach great importance to the special relationship with Cuba, Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla emphasized that the Party, State and people of Cuba always attach great importance to and sincerely thank the solidarity and valuable support that the Party, State and people of fraternal Vietnam have given to Cuba. Cuba considers Vietnam a successful model and wishes to share experiences with Vietnam in many fields.

In a warm and friendly atmosphere, the two sides agreed to closely coordinate and implement measures to continue consolidating and developing bilateral cooperation, including promoting the exchange of delegations at all levels, effectively implementing cooperation mechanisms and agreements between the two Parties and States, especially concretizing high-level agreements reached during the State visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam in September 2024; enhancing experience exchange and promoting cooperation in all fields, especially in trade, agriculture, energy, biotechnology, and pharmaceuticals; closely coordinating to implement a series of commemorative activities in each country on the occasion of the "Vietnam - Cuba Friendship Year 2025".

At the same time, the two sides agreed to strengthen coordination and mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums, especially at the United Nations, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

It can be seen that through the exchanges between the head of the Cuban diplomatic sector and the leaders of Vietnam, the spirit of cooperation and strong determination of both sides to consolidate and enhance the traditional friendship and special cooperation that was established by Cuban National Hero José Martí, President Ho Chi Minh, President Fidel Castro and cultivated by generations of leaders of the two countries.

Special loyal love

President Ho Chi Minh once said: "Vietnam and Cuba are thousands of miles apart, but the hearts of the two peoples are as close as brothers in one family."

Indeed! In the history of the contemporary world, there is rarely a relationship as special as the relationship between the two Parties, two States and the people of Vietnam and Cuba. Half a world apart, Vietnam and Cuba have many similarities in the historical process of struggle and the aspiration to build and defend the country.

The revolutionary ideal has become a bond that connects the hearts of the people, creating a solid foundation for the special and loyal relationship between Vietnam and Cuba. Cuba was the first country in the Western Hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam (December 2, 1960) and President Fidel Castro was the first and only foreign leader to visit the newly liberated area of Quang Tri in September 1973, despite the smoke and fire of bombs at that time.

Today, despite many challenges and historical ups and downs, the two countries have always stood side by side to build and develop the country, supporting each other spiritually and materially, generously, selflessly, and purely according to the principle of "sharing what is little, not what is in excess", which has been affirmed and demonstrated at the most difficult times in the revolutionary career of each country.

Over the past 65 years, the traditional solidarity, special friendship, comprehensive cooperation and mutual trust between Vietnam and Cuba have been continuously consolidated and developed in many fields. This is clearly demonstrated through the maintenance of delegation exchanges and high-level contacts. In particular, the visit of General Secretary and President To Lam in September 2024 created a historic milestone, further deepening the special relationship and opening up new directions for cooperation in the future.

Along with that, the two sides regularly and effectively implement consultation and cooperation mechanisms. Currently, Vietnam is Cuba's second largest trade partner in Asia, the largest foreign investor in the Asia-Pacific region in the Latin American country with projects in agriculture, industrial park infrastructure, construction materials, consumer goods production, renewable energy, etc.

The two countries regularly share extensively and trust each other on lessons learned in the development process in each country; closely cooperate and support each other on the foreign front to protect the legitimate interests of each country and contribute to the common efforts for peace, stability, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

It can be said that the visit of Minister Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla continued the good development of the bilateral relationship, concretizing the policy of the leaders of the two countries to continue to strongly develop the traditional solidarity, special friendship, and comprehensive cooperation to a new height, more substantive, effective, and sustainable.

Looking to the future, with the invaluable baggage of the special friendship and solidarity, with the political will of the high-ranking leaders and the unwavering determination of the people of the two countries, we believe that Vietnam and Cuba will realize their burning desire to bring their countries forward in the new era.

During this visit to Vietnam, I had a busy work schedule. This was a short but very effective visit...

During the meetings, the two sides discussed the excellent, excellent and optimal relations, as well as the mutual support between Vietnam and Cuba. We noted the significant progress in all projects that the two countries are developing together. We set the goal of further and faster cooperation in all fields of politics, economics, culture, science... On the agenda, we confirmed the great consensus on important international issues.
