According to AP, Finland and Estonia said they have temporarily suspended operations of the Balticco[1]nnector gas pipeline connecting the two countries due to suspected leaks.
Gasgrid Finland and Elering - the two gas system operators of Finland and Estonia - noticed an unusual drop in pressure in the pipeline early on the morning of October 8 and closed valves to prevent leaks.
Gasgrid Finland said that in the event of a leak, repairs could take “a minimum of several months,” depending on the severity of the problem. During the Balticconnector shutdown, Finland would use gas from a liquid natural gas (LNG) storage facility near Helsinki.
Meanwhile, Estonia will also secure gas for consumers through gas from Latvia. The Balticco[1]nnector pipeline began commercial operations in early 2020. This is a two-way transit facility based on supply and demand, jointly operated by Gasgrid Finland and Estonian company Elering.
