Temporarily suspend the practicing lawyer status of defendant Dang Thi Han Ni

On March 26, responding to VTC News , lawyer Nguyen Van Hau, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association, said that this organization had a meeting and decided to temporarily suspend the practicing lawyer status of Dang Thi Han Ni (born in 1977, residing in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City).

According to Mr. Hau, Ms. Dang Thi Han Ni is being prosecuted, so the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association has temporarily suspended her legal practice. If the court convicts her, Ms. Ni will have her law practice certificate revoked by the competent authorities and her name removed from the list of lawyers.

According to Mr. Hau, the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association previously received information that Ms. Dang Thi Han Ni had signs of violating Articles 17 and 18 of the 2006 Law on Lawyers.

Specifically, she is both a lawyer and a journalist for a newspaper in Ho Chi Minh City. The Bar Association sent a dispatch to the press agency where she worked and the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Home Affairs to request verification of whether she was a civil servant or not. However, the association did not receive a response from these two agencies, so there is no basis to revoke her lawyer's certificate.

" If the Ho Chi Minh City Bar Association receives confirmation from competent authorities that Ms. Han Ni is a civil servant, we will remove her lawyer status because she is violating the Law on Lawyers, " said Mr. Hau.

Previously, on February 24, the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department initiated a criminal case, prosecuted the accused and executed an order to temporarily detain the accused Dang Thi Han Ni to investigate the act of abusing democratic freedoms to infringe upon the interests of the State, the legitimate rights and interests of organizations and individuals under Article 331 of the Penal Code.

According to Ho Chi Minh City Police, previously, the Criminal Police Department of Ho Chi Minh City Police had received and processed the complaint from Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hang and her husband, Mr. Huynh Uy Dung, about the defendant Dang Thi Han Ni posting videos insulting honor and dignity. This act violated the legitimate interests of Dai Nam Joint Stock Company and Hang Huu Charity Fund.

The police determined that Dang Thi Han Ni had intentionally posted many videos on her Youtube channel with unverified content. This information was personal, family and private secrets. The posted content attracted hundreds of thousands of views and comments, negatively affecting public order and security, causing panic among the people, and violating the basic rights of citizens.
