According to Polygon , Sony will be shutting down X, the social networking service formerly known as Twitter, on the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 consoles next week. According to a notice posted to PlayStation's support website, viewing any content shared by X on the PlayStation 4/5, as well as the ability to post and view content, and other activities will all stop working on November 13.
PlayStation no longer supports X
Sony never updated the rebranding of its console Twitter app to X. The app has been a simple way for many people to share screenshots and gameplay clips from their PlayStation consoles on social media for the past decade. Every day, thousands of pieces of media captured on PlayStation are shared to X with the hashtags #PS4Share and #PS5Share.
With the move to discontinue Twitter/X integration, PlayStation users will have to take a few extra steps to share information on the platform. The easiest method will be to use Sony's official PlayStation App for Android and iOS, which allows them to transfer screenshots and clips from their PlayStation console to their mobile device.
Sony rival Microsoft made a similar move earlier this year, removing Twitter/X integration from Xbox consoles and the Windows Game Bar. Microsoft’s decision coincided with Twitter/X rolling out a new API pricing structure that could see companies like Microsoft pay more than $40,000 per month for X.
Currently, only the Nintendo Switch still supports media sharing to the social networking platform owned by Elon Musk.
