With over 2,150 hectares of tea, over 10,400 hectares of fruit trees and over 3,000 hectares of vegetables, along with a system of 80 hectares of greenhouses, net houses and over 500 hectares of water-saving irrigation, Moc Chau is realizing its abundant economic potential. In particular, over 350 hectares of production according to VietGAP and Global GAP standards have contributed to increasing the value of agricultural land production to an average of over 80 million VND/ha/year, even reaching 250 million VND/ha in areas applying high technology.
This success is clearly demonstrated through the branding of many typical agricultural products such as tea, milk, plums, avocados, crispy persimmons, oranges, etc., which are protected by geographical indications and separate product identities.
The system of 111 agricultural cooperatives with more than 1,110 members and 33 OCOP products (including 11 4-star products and 22 3-star products) is a clear demonstration of the sustainable development of Moc Chau's agricultural sector. OCOP products, produced from high-quality raw materials by farmer members, not only create stable output but also significantly increase people's income.
Moc Chau is also famous for nearly 3,500 hectares of plums - the largest plum growing area in the country. People not only focus on plum production but also cleverly combine experiential tourism, taking advantage of the beauty of plum flowers and plums to attract tourists.
Mr. Ho Van Dat, owner of a plum garden of more than 5,000 square meters in Na Ka valley, said that he has adjusted the plum blossom blooming time to serve tourists during the New Year holiday, then focused on fruit productivity. Opening a camping service right in the garden helps his family increase their income by about 250,000 VND/camp/night.
This model has been replicated, creating many eco-tourism products and attractive experiences such as visiting farms, experiencing agricultural harvests, or exploring the lush green tea hills of Vinatea Moc Chau, heart-shaped tea hills, fingerprints...
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Vice Chairwoman of Moc Chau District People’s Committee, affirmed that sustainable agricultural development and cultural preservation are the foundation for Moc Chau tourism. The government always encourages community tourism models, combining agriculture and tourism, creating unique products, attracting tourists and increasing income for local people.
The agricultural model combined with community tourism in Moc Chau not only contributes to sustainable economic development but also maximizes the local potential, brings diverse economic benefits to the people, affirms the position of Moc Chau as an attractive tourist destination and an agricultural development model worth learning.
