25 years in the profession, has "age" but no "name"
Singer Huong Giang (born in 1974) is the wife of the late singer Phi Hai. She started singing at the age of 22, won first prize in the Dong Nai Province Television Singing Contest, third prize in the Ho Chi Minh City Television Singing Contest, and fourth prize in the National Television Singing Contest (tied with Ho Quynh Huong).
Despite her long career and highly regarded voice, Huong Giang has remained relatively quiet. For the past 25 years, she has been stuck in tea rooms and singing venues in Ho Chi Minh City. That is why when mentioning Huong Giang, audiences often call her "the sad girl of the tea room".

Sharing with Dan Tri reporter, Huong Giang said that her 25-year journey in art has been full of hardships, having to go through many ups and downs from health issues, marital problems, childbirth to economic pressures...
Carrying many burdens on her shoulders, she admitted that she was distracted and could not become an artist who was "wholehearted" in her career. However, music has been her "medicine to heal her soul" for the past two decades.
"When I focus on music, I forget my sadness. Music helps me balance the problems in my life. Holding the mic, I forget everything around me. My artistic path may be quite quiet, but I think I'm suitable for it.
To become famous, many factors are needed and I find myself lacking a lot. Besides singing ability and musical thinking, I don't have anything else. I don't have beauty, I don't have jealousy in me and I don't have the financial potential to invest in my career," said the 7X singer.

"Sad girl in the tea room" said that after leaving the Voice of Television contest in 1997, she received an offer from musician Nguyen Nam asking "do you want to be famous like Phuong Thanh?". However, the singer refused with the simple thought that after going to school and graduating, she would have to go to work.
Huong Giang admits that she is a singer with "age" but no "name" in the Vietnamese entertainment industry. However, she remains calm because she knows how to accept the rules of everyday life.
The female singer does not use her "career age" to demand or prove anything. She only hopes to have enough health and financial conditions to sing and be accepted by the audience.
Facing the shock of losing loved ones again and again
Besides her arduous artistic journey, Huong Giang also had to face many changes in her life. The 7X singer confided that in the past 2 years, she has continuously witnessed the passing of relatives. In 2021, her husband died due to the Covid-19 epidemic, and in 2022, her sister passed away. A few months ago, her mother also passed away.
However, when talking about her losses, Huong Giang often tells them with a calm mind. Despite the pain and loss, she tells herself to be strong because she still has the responsibility of her two children.
She said: "Now I have officially become an "orphan" because my husband, sister and mother have all passed away one by one. It is painful, but I encourage myself that I am still alive and must take care of those who are still alive. As for the sadness that I cannot share, I wrap it all up and put it all into music."

Talking to Dan Tri reporter, Huong Giang said that she still carries many economic burdens. Not only now, but throughout her career, she always has to carry economic worries.
The singer added: "It's not that I haven't accumulated anything during my singing career. However, sometimes life events happen that leave me empty-handed and have to start over. Oh well! At this age, I don't expect to become something great, I just want to have a little extra to take care of my children."

Huong Giang's eldest daughter is 21 years old this year, majoring in economics. The 7X singer said that her daughter is like a "copy" of herself in terms of personality, humor but personality and strength. Even from a young age, her daughter expressed the desire to "protect" her mother.
Huong Giang confided: "I still owe my daughter a dream. She wants to become a music director but has to choose to study economics to ease the burden on me.
Just like me, my daughter has had artistic "blood" since she was a child, sings well and has a good sense of music. I support my daughter's dream but don't want her artistic career to be like mine. I let her develop and orient her own path. I will stand behind and support her when necessary."
Huong Giang's youngest son is 10 years old this year, an intelligent boy and quick to learn English. Giving birth to her second son at the age of 39, Huong Giang said she had to try very hard to give her son a full life. The singer expressed her sadness at not having enough conditions to send her son to an international school and to further develop his talents.

Regarding her personal love life, Huong Giang admits that she is stubborn and not beautiful, but many men pursue her. There was even a man 19 years younger (born in 1995) who proposed to her, but she refused because she knew it would be difficult to last.
The singer added: "At this age, I feel that love is no longer necessary. Up until now, I've been the only one taking care of my life, so whether or not there is a man is not important."
