It is estimated that output has decreased by about 40% compared to last year. Despite the decrease in output, the selling price of off-season kumquat is not high.
According to many kumquat farmers in Thanh Ha, kumquat is being sold at 14,000 VND/kg, down 5,000 VND compared to the end of February and down about 12,000 VND compared to the same time last year.
Kumquat prices have fallen due to low demand. Farmers still do not have a stable consumption channel, depending on the market and selling through traders to wholesale markets.
Thanh Ha district currently has nearly 400 hectares of kumquat, mainly grown in Thanh Son, Cam Viet, and Phuong Hoang communes. Because the main season kumquat (August and September every year) is not priced well, Thanh Ha farmers have switched to growing kumquat off-season for many years now with the hope of earning higher income because this time is near summer, and people's demand is higher.
