At Galaxy Unpacked, attendees got a look at the Galaxy S25 Edge, although they couldn't touch it. As rumored, the Galaxy S25 Edge will have an extremely thin design. However, contrary to previous leaks, the device will only have two rear cameras instead of three, and may have an extremely thin design.
Samsung has chosen the thinnest design with dual cameras for the Galaxy S25 Edge to compete with the iPhone 17 Air
Now, reliable sources Smart Prix and @OnLeaks have posted information that Samsung is making two different decisions for the Galaxy S25 Edge: a prototype A with a slim design and good features (6.4mm and three cameras), while prototype B is thinner but cuts some features. With competition from the iPhone 17 Air, Samsung finally chose to introduce prototype B at Galaxy Unpacked.
Samsung takes a risk with the Galaxy S25 Edge
With the B prototype, Samsung decided to take the bold step of ditching the telephoto lens in favor of a dual-camera system for the Galaxy S25 Edge. This allowed the company to create a device that is just 5.84mm thick, promising to be one of the thinnest smartphones available today.
In addition to cutting down on the camera, Samsung also reduced the battery capacity of the Galaxy S25 Edge to 3,900 mAh, down from the 4,000 mAh battery of the base Galaxy S25. For comparison, the thinnest smartphone currently without a folding design is the Honor 200 Lite, which has a larger 4,500 mAh battery.
To make up for all of this, Samsung could rely on the performance of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, combined with a 6.7-inch 120Hz OLED display. Additionally, the Galaxy S25 Edge only supports 25W wired charging, which is the same charging speed as the base Galaxy S25. There's no word on wireless charging support yet, which further highlights the sacrifices Samsung is willing to make to achieve the ultra-thin design of the new product.
The Galaxy S25 Edge is expected to launch later this summer, possibly in April or May.
